pickups - Radio Raheem - 01-20-2010
tf2 lobby is a new pickup system in place and it kinda rapes. you basically sign up with an email and your steam id and then it has a list of all the current games with map and players etc. its all 6v6 and you can choose things like class limits, crits, map and all that. lot of people getting in on this check it out. super easy and its still happening at 4am

How long does it usually take to get a game going? I've really wanted to play more towards less fucking crits ;P But I don't have time to schedule a game (otherwise I woulda gone for the tourney)

depends entirely on how many people are in the lobby. It just came out of beta last night, with a lobby of 25ish people (most of whom were afk at 3am) it took 10ish minutes to get a game going. So hopefully, not very long at all, but ymmv
Also apparently the creators encourage people to try using it for scrims, so you can do that too if you're so inclined. Unfortunately most of the servers are valve-provided servers so they're pretty shit :\

i watched one go up at 730 am and it took 10 minutes to fill. so pretty quick

They aren't all Valve's. A lot of them are community servers just given freely. I considered giving Yellow part time, however you need to give up Rcon for obvious reasons.
If you had horrible ping, it was probably on the community Euro servers.

the valve ones are absolutely terrible but i just use my own server whenever i make a lobby. if one of the guys heading up yellow starts lobbies he can just use yellow for it. should be a lot better

I've played two games using it. First one was pretty good. Second one everyone on my team except me had 200+ ping and didn't speak fluent English :
Seems like a good way to get some pug experience otherwise.
