FNF - 4/22 - SUPER CEREAL EDITION - Eightball - 04-22-2010

Hey everyone, it looks like I'll be hosting Friday Night Fights for the first time!

The legitimacy of custom maps has been hotly debated in a wide number of games over a span of genres and years. TF2 is no exception, and even in our custom-friendly community, some discourse exists regarding the proper use and rotation of custom maps. It is my goal this Friday to test the mettle of our most popular custom maps in a [marginally] more competitive scenario. Or some bullshit like that, I don't know. Since this is my first time hosting FNF, there won't be any new maps. However, this FNF will be heavily oriented around pick-up gaming. For those of you that don't know (I assume all of you do), teams will be selected a la dodgeball, with two captains selecting from a pool consisting of all other players. I'll also be recording the MVPs for each round and reporting it here. A credit will be given to each of the round's three MVPs equally, to reflect consistent performance rather than a few hot runs. The person with the most credits gets laughed at gets bragging rights. I'll throw in a copy of CoD4 for him or her too, a $15 value this weekend.

Here's the agenda:

Warm-up with Frontier, arguably the most remarkable custom payload map around. Teams will be open, no selection criteria here. Just play to win. As cruel as it is, one of the reasons for this warmup is also to shake off some pubbies over time, who may muck up the pickup process. MVP credits will be issued, but only for the first attack/defense for each team, since sometimes a third game might slip in.

We'll begin the pick-up games with Coldfront. It has proven to be extremely popular in a short timespan on brb, but we haven't had much of a chance to test it in a pick-up setting (or an RPS setting for that matter, but let's save that for another time). Captains will be selected on a first-come, first-serve basis in game. If you really want to captain, let me know while we're still on Frontier, or just post here. MVP credits will be issued for the first three rounds.

Next will be a cool-down session on Mercy. MVP credits will not be issued for wins here. Sorry, but I can't take CTF very seriously, haha. No team selection criteria, just play to win as always. We'll move on as soon as people are ready (since pick-ups are a bit time-consuming, we probably won't stay on mercy for a full cycle).

Finally, we will play one more pick-up game on Snowdrift. Teams and captains will be different than on coldfront, meaning there will be another selection round. Not sure what else to say. Post now if you really want to be a captain. MVP credits will be issued for the first attack/defense for each team.

Hope everyone can make it! And remember, though we're playing to win, let's not forget that we're all playing to have fun as well.

Hahaha, I'm actually kinda worried about the system I'm using. I'm afraid people might opt out of support roles like engie, etc to try to be MVP.

I bet you it'll be a complete failure and I'll never host an FNF again Big Grin

As long as there are FNF's we will always need hosts

Re: FNF - 4/22 - SUPER CEREAL EDITION - Didzo - 04-22-2010

I am a single Heavy looking for a long term relationship. I prefer Germans with adorable accents and a love of hot Russian sausage. Together we can rise to the top through the power of love and uber.

Edit:

Awww fuck forgot about Liquid.  :'(

I'll be there to whatever extent my mom's bitching allows me. Why does she have to be home tomorrow night? >Sad

Re: FNF - 4/22 - SUPER CEREAL EDITION - Black Aspen - 04-23-2010

This FNF sounds right up my alley.  I'll see what I can do to make it.  Didzo, I might take you up on your offer, minus the butseks.

Re: FNF - 4/22 - SUPER CEREAL EDITION - backfire - 04-23-2010

Coldfront's considered good in comp play?

OOOH MAAAN My favorite map just got better!

<3 coldfront. I'll be there for her sake!

Re: FNF - 4/22 - SUPER CEREAL EDITION - Puck - 04-23-2010

Re: FNF - 4/22 - SUPER CEREAL EDITION - Moosendoo - 04-23-2010

I don't know if I'll be able to handle four straight maps of serious play, but I'll definitely try to show up for at least the first two since they are two of the best maps in the game.  Plus, it's time to finally craft my Heavy hat - but I'll try to do that before FNF so if (when) I get a football helmet I won't rage quit in the middle of a pug.

P.S. engie's can be MVP too.  Wink

Yeah, I'm debating cutting mercy out entirely if people don't feel like four maps. Maybe it'll just be at the end.'

And I'll be crafting my demo hat tonight too. Just got my fourth refined metal [Image: 018.gif]

Only an absolute idiot would opt out of Engy for point whoring purposes. Lv3 Tele = Top of list, everytime.
