The Spy thread for Devious Cunning. - [SiN] Merc - 09-02-2010 Attenton: The forum now has topics for hoovy, proro, and scoot. What was missing, you may be inclined to ask? Well, only the most dashing of rogues, the pinnacle of intelligence, precision, and cat like reflexes. No, not the sniper you buffoon, the spy. Make no mistake gentlemen, we are outnumbered, and outgunned. However, we are never out thought, or out maneuvered. We will leave our mark men, and when they stare at their broken dreams, sapped sentries, and revolver killed corpses, they will look up to us, and cry "Save us!" and we will look down on them and whisper "No." Then facestab them. Ok, enough of that. What I want to do in this thread is to offer advice, strats, stories, anything involving spies, because of a simple reason: Spy Rage=Lol. So then, without further delays let's get dangerous. Re: The Spy thread for Devious Cunning. - HeK - 09-02-2010 Damnit Gabe! Where's my gas gun? I understand its point, and I can see it being useful on maps like TC_Hydro, something with a few nooks and crannies, but no ammo. I hate the people who use it. You know, the fellas you see on pub servers that cloak for 11 minutes just to backstab a single afk sniper. Gah. Re: The Spy thread for Devious Cunning. - PyroZombie - 09-03-2010 Today I backstabbed 5 people in dustbowl waiting for a scout to open the door on the first cap. I will often waste upwards of 5 minutes stalking people with it. I am also a pretty crappy spy. Re: The Spy thread for Devious Cunning. - Chief - 09-03-2010 oh yeah last night i played spy too on coldfront i spent like 2/3 of my time being on top of my team's scoreboard as a revolver spy because they suck and then im like "obvious stax: liquid, eightball, and 5 other people on my friend's list is on one team, eightball or liquid come over here" and then eightball came over to my team and we spent the rest of the 25 minutes going back and forth good times Re: The Spy thread for Devious Cunning. - Hobospartan - 09-03-2010 (09-03-2010, 02:27 PM)TheDarkChief link Wrote: oh yeah last night i played spy too on coldfront Yeah that was a fun match, then the map time ran out :/ Re: The Spy thread for Devious Cunning. - Negate - 09-03-2010 Well in my personal opinion there are 2 schools of spycraft the stealth school which rely's on not being spotted, and the shock and awe school which basically don't care if you know they are there or not. All they need is a small opening like for instance a stair stab and they kill you. Shock and awe spies love them some dead ringer because since you intend to be spotted anyway you might as well be able to get away. With the dead ringer on most metal rich maps there are only 3 ways this is gonna go. 1) some of their team just keeps trying to follow you and you can troll them away for quite some time. 2) they say fuck it and give up and leave you alone, then you strike. 3) (note happens rarely) a good airblast pyro shows up and puts an end to your fun. Stealth spies usually use the IW unless they are on one of the few maps without abundant metal in which case use the CND. Stealth spies like to pick people off unseen because if you are noticed you will probably die. Examples of stealth spy include stalking unaware enemies, leap stabs and ambushing from behind cover. With the cloak it is easier to get into position but much harder to escape with your life unless you eliminate all witnesses. With the DR escaping is your specialty, so choose your watch well based on the style you want to play with. Use of the ambassador is solely a testament to your ability to consistently headshot people if you can't don't use it the normal revolver will do more damage fire quicker and has the chance to random crit. All great spies are at least proficient in both schools but usually have chosen a specialty for themselves. This is a funass strategy, I like to do it as Pyro on the maps where I can get behind them w/o being noticed and pop tele, then harass the people spawning and going to the front line. Then when the engie comes back to rebuild tele, he dies and team gets to rape his gun. Most people don't realize just how effective of a strategy merely being annoying can be, for spies that can cloak to get away and pyros who can airblast and use corners to escape with impunity however, it just becomes a hilarious form of entertainment.
