I started writing a new comic today - Surf314 - 03-24-2008 So I've wanted to be a writer for like forever, but sort of gave it up temporarily to pursue a career that makes real monies. But I've really been into writing some of my story ideas lately, especially coming up with stuff to put up top in my Surflocke Investigates blog series. And now I've written the first three scenes of my very own Noir detective comic. The idea is to make something that is both makes fun of and celebrates the genre and I think I may have gotten it where it has just the right quantity of humor as well as started a pretty good story. But I was hoping for help for things that must go in it. I've already got the femme fatale so check. I'm thinking maybe zombies? Probably some sort of cult. What do you think absolutely has to go into an overly Noir, dark, gritty detective story that is sometimes funny sometimes actiony and sometimes clever dick stuff? Feel free to think over the top. If my friend likes it I think he will do the art, he wants to go to art school for comic book illustration so he needs stuff for his portfolio anyways. Re: I started writing a new comic today - CaffeinePowered - 03-24-2008 Do zombies really go with film noir? If you want some off the wall stuff maybe you could draw some inspiration from the old batman cartoon, looking back on it that was some pretty heavy film noir for kids. Re: I started writing a new comic today - Surf314 - 03-24-2008 Yea I'm not suggesting zombie outbreak, but throwing in some wierd lovecraftian otherworldliness definately appears to me. But what I really am hoping for is if people have some cliches for me or crazy stuff I can work in, I have to confess I'm not so much an expert on the genre. I also forgot to mention I was thinking about making it where all the characters names come from Dtoid. I figured since Dtoid gave me the idea from my posts it would be cool, but also because I hate making up names. I always feel like they sound unnatural. Re: I started writing a new comic today - Eschatos - 03-24-2008 Noir zombies and robots could be the best thing ever. It could also suck. It's all up to you. Re: I started writing a new comic today - Mission Difficult - 03-24-2008 I think a kind of crazy cult would be cool. Makes me think of the graphic novel/comic Fell.
