Use any skins? - Chief - 07-09-2008

We all know the server isn't pure, which means that we can have custom skins that either look deliciously awesome or atrocious.
Now, instead of having a thread full of pictures and links to the many skins (if you people even have them), just post your favorite skin or skin pack.

An awesome skin for the Spy by FreshDachs. Very detailed, as well.

Oh, you can post weapon skins too.

Re: Use any skins? - Geoff - 07-09-2008

I didn't know skins worked with the server.

Re: Use any skins? - Luca Shoal - 07-09-2008

They're client-side. You see the skins, others don't.

I use all the original Beta-Style ones I found (ie, ones like this http://www.fpsbanana.com/skins/34385), which was....every class but Heavy & Demo if I recall correctly.

http://www.fpsbanana.com/skins/31995 I use this Heavy
and I lack a Demoman skin of interest, tho I'll go look now.

edit - I'm throwing in the Beta-Like Demo & Heavy. FUCK YEAH BETA STYLE.

edit2 - Heavy one sucks, so I'm leaving it as is. Updated my Beta-Style Pyro.

They don't (not on the brbu ones anyways). sv_pure 1 prevents using custom skins *I believe*

Sorry Chief, but the servers are pure.

Apparently was mistaken. my bad

I have fore.

Re: Use any skins? - Luca Shoal - 07-09-2008

Skins work on some maps, but I think it's only the official Valve maps.

Skins should be enabled tho >:C.

Re: Use any skins? - cbre88x - 07-09-2008

Yea, any servers that aren't in the customs tab have that pure setting I believe. This is because there is a particular skining glitch that allows you to see the other team through walls. I'll post a video in a few minutes.

I finally found it.

It made me sick to my stomach watching this. I don't enjoy cheaters, but sure do enjoy watching their pink mist in my scope. Infact, do we have sv_pure 1 set on our servers?

Actually, sv_pure 1 is not enough. sv_pure 1 uses a server-defined whitelist to decide what players can and can't use. The default whitelist allows stuff like this though. And while I like custom skins as much as the next guy, I don't want to have to deal with this kind of thing.

More to come later

Argh. That video made my blood boil. :|

The only reskin I would ever do is putting an :awesome: face on the HUD-side shovel (assuming there are seperate HUD-side and third-person weapon skins and models).

Settin sv_pure to 2 until further notice

pure 2 disables sprays, modified the whitelist file to disallow skins on player models and weapons

sounds good to me.

I was going to bring the wallhack thing up, but I feared that I would've been made fun of.

Yes, there is plenty of wallhacks when I researched, as well as aimbots, sadly. Wallhacks are more commonly referred to as Material Hacks since they use the skin material in games to view players through walls.

That is the most common wallhack, really. Brightly coloured people. It cannot detected cloaked spies though.

And yes, if you have sv_pure 1 on models, I'm pretty sure it will stop it without having to block other things.

Pure 1 does not allow custom textures in actual maps, which is what most OLD wall hacks were. Aim and speed hacks generally don't last very long as valve  usually updates VAC as they come out.

Skin hacks like this that allow wallhack are undetectable by VAC for the time being, but if you edit the white list file you can stop it fairly easily.

By the way I was trying to fool around with skins and I somehow fucked up the little animation the pyro does in the character choosing screen..anyone know the specific file I fucked up/accidentally deleted/ect.?

Why would you want to play like that, it looks fugly.  I always wonder about people who care more about winning than enjoying the game.

Re: Use any skins? - Geoff - 07-10-2008

Even with wallhacks, the people who use them still are terrible.Â
