Castlevania, best and worst of... - Yomanz - 06-28-2008

Preferably your 5 favorite Castlevania games followed by your two least favorite, not required though. Also i say two least favorites because i am assuming the n64 game is going to be in there and i want more than just that one.

Top 5:

1. Symphony of the Night -obvious choice

2. Harmony of Dissonance -Played through this one in Japanese before i got the english version.

3. Super Castlevania IV -My favorite super nintendo Castlevania

4. Circle of the moon -This game was kinda unappreciated by most people, but i love the spell system.

5. Aria of sorrow - This game was pretty good, nothing special though.

Worst 2 Games

1. Castlevania 64 -worst $20 i ever spent
2. Curse of Darkness for the PS2 - I honestly don't like 3d castlevania games.

I suppose im biased against the 3d games. I've heard good things about Lament of Innocence, but i'd rather not waste my money on what's probably another terrible 3d castlevania.

Im curious though as to other peoples opinions.

Re: Castlevania, best and worst of... - rumsfald - 06-28-2008

The thing I love about Castlevania games is that they are all pretty interchangeable for me, but then again I've only played the 2d TWO DIMENSIONAL games.

EDIT: updated for grad students who don't know what "2d" is even though they use "3d" in the same posts.

What? No Simon's quest for worst?

So 2 can be interchanged with...2?

Actually, i'll have to go just

1. SotN
2. Simon's Quest
3.  That first GBA castlevania game
4.  Super Castlevania.

I wont bother listing bad ones, because even on some level i enjoyed the 3d ones....

Re: Castlevania, best and worst of... - cbre88x - 06-28-2008

SotN and IV were an awesome set of games. The new DS games are nice, but don't feel like the classic whippin' ass action of the older games.

Harmony of Dissonance is the worst =X.

And Circle of the Moon is the best SotN rip-off, ugly graphics and all.  Because unlike all the other ones, it's actually challenging.

Loved Harmony, it's probably because it was the first castlevania i played, not to mention it was in japanese which i thought was cool at the time so im kinda biased.

And it's no secret that they tried to take what made SoTN great and pass it on. They didn't necessarily succeed but you can't play each game through trying to compare it to the best one in it's series because that will just ruin it.

The DS games were meh. I mean i didn't find anything particularly wrong with them, they just didn't feel like the old castlevania games.

For the record, i love Simon's quest and i don't care what anyone says.

This might be "one of five games" syndrome stemming from child hood, but i still have fun playing it and i don't even care the stairs are impossible to climb and you have to drudge through the city every other round.  It's still fun.

They are taking everyone.  Wolfwood, and DarkNinMagic as well.  My next guess is Spore :3
