Still hesitant to order the last parts for my rig - s0lesurviv0r - 07-14-2008 I posted earlier about building a new computer, since then I sent back the motherboard, cpu, gpu's, and blu-ray drive. Now that I have been refunded I'm ready to get the right parts but wanted to get opinions and ask questions. What I'm planning to get: ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wireless Edition EVGA 640-P2-N829-AR GeForce 8800GTS SSC 640MB 320-bit (I still have the burning question in my mind whether to get these or a single GTX260?) AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Windsor 3.2GHz Socket AM2 125W Dual-Core (Newegg has the Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 3.0GHz on special, should I get that one to save a few bucks or stick with the 6400+?) Western Digital Caviar Blue WD800JD 80GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s (for the OS) What I already have Antec Three Hundred ATX Mid Tower Western Digital Caviar RE WD2500YS 250GB 7200 RPM Sata3.0Gb/s (should I get another one to run RAID? Would setting it up be difficult for newbies?) LG Super Multi Blu-ray burner SATA Silverstone OP650 650W 12V 2.2 &EPS12V Patriot Viper 4GB DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) vista ultimate 64-bit Zalman 110mm 2 ball CPU cooler Re: Still hesitant to order the last parts for my rig - dapngwnman - 07-14-2008 I would totally recommend ATI HD 4850 cards. Because I am suddenly a fanboy for ATI again. Just out of the blue. Yeah. Just as a sidenote, if you go with dual ATI cards, you'll need to make sure the motherboard supports it, as SLI != Crossfire And, if money isn't much of an issue (I assume this is the case as you're SLI'ing 8800GTS's), I would say go with a high-end Intel chip. You'll appreciate the increased CPU cache. But if money is an issue, stick with AMD, and if it's that much of an issue, drop 1 card for now while you get a better CPU. Just my 2 cents. Re: Still hesitant to order the last parts for my rig - s0lesurviv0r - 07-14-2008 I was just recently comtemplating an e8400, but looking for another mobo is opening up another can of worms for me. How are these, XFX MB-N780-ISH9 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI  MSI P6N Diamond LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ASUS P5N-E SLI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI Re: Still hesitant to order the last parts for my rig - CaffeinePowered - 07-14-2008 Asus, ALWAYS Asus Re: Still hesitant to order the last parts for my rig - Budr - 07-14-2008 (07-14-2008, 09:38 AM)CaffeinePowered link Wrote: Asus, ALWAYS Asus Caff knows. Re: Still hesitant to order the last parts for my rig - Wedge - 07-14-2008 Worth nothing, they've dropped the prices on the 9800 GTX's lately http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143137 Re: Still hesitant to order the last parts for my rig - jorge - 07-14-2008 (07-14-2008, 09:52 PM)Wedge link Wrote: Worth nothing, they've dropped the prices on the 9800 GTX's latelyf that http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125224 Re: Still hesitant to order the last parts for my rig - Wedge - 07-14-2008 (07-14-2008, 10:04 PM)jorge link Wrote:
f that http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125224
Yeah the 9800GTX and 4850 are about on par with eachother. But he's got an SLI mobo listed (650W mite not be enough for two of either of those cards anyways though). Re: Still hesitant to order the last parts for my rig - dapngwnman - 07-15-2008 jorge, you get so much <3 for that Re: Still hesitant to order the last parts for my rig - s0lesurviv0r - 07-15-2008 Thanks for all the suggestions but I think I'm going to stick with the 8800GTS for right now, I just want to finally get this thing built and run UT3 which I ordered with the other parts. It's been staring at me from the corner for 2 weeks. Will the 650 work for a second 8800 or will I have to get a different PSU when I get that second card? |
