Who can/would play DOTA? - Tragic Hero - 07-21-2008
Ok I talked about this in the past and I got some mixed responses about how people don't have Warcraft 3(WC3) or they don't have the Frozen Throne expansion. And some of those who did have it didn't have the mod or didn't know how to get it.Â
And for those of you who do not know what DOTA is it is a mod for Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne. DOTA stands for Defense of the Ancients and the whole point of the game is to destroy the other teams base. You pick out of a large group of custom heroes, each hero differs in melee or range and intelligence, agility and strength heroes. If you are familiar with any time of Warcraft game or most other games you will know that Intelligence heroes are good with magic attacks, Agility heroes tend to do large amounts of damage and move fast and Str heroes are good at dealing and taking damage.Â
So after you pick your hero your base sends out creeps to the other base (somewhat like a tower defense game). It is your teams job to go with the creeps and help take out towers in order to push to the main base and win. Of course the other team is doing the same thing so you have to work together to take out heroes and help push towers. By killing creeps and heroes you earn money to buy items to help assist you in killing your enemies and experience points to level yourself up.
Its quite a lot of fun and I would be willing to teach those who are interested. So let me know what you all think and we can get this ball rolling.
oh and click here to get the latest DOTA map if you are interested in playing. Just create a download folder in your map folder in your WC3 directory and put the downloaded map there. And feel free to browse that site in order to learn more about the game if you don't feel like waiting for me to show you the ropes. Only thing is that those who play dota don't take too kindly to noobs and it can be pretty harsh first starting off.

Ah ha, I've played this before... its fun but I'm afraid I'm very terrible at it. I've only played like three times with a friend who was super good at it and annoyed with me super sucking at it.
I'd be interested in playing if there are other noobs

You only get better by playing, regardless of noobs or regulars playing. Honestly you would want to play with good players more so you figure out what to buy and what set ups to go.

I haven't played since like 4.51b so I'm completely behind in all the new heroes/items/abilities. That being said this game used to own my life (much like TF2 does now), I'd love to pick it up again.

DotA is cool and all, but my favorite WC3 mod was the tower defense mod named Burbenog. Anyone ever play that?

Thats what I am here for. And anyone else who plays/played a lot.Â
Well im going to use all this info and maybe set a date for DOTA coming up this weekend or some day next week.Â

If I were worried about people sucking I would not have suggested to play with the community. By all of us who know eachother playing it would be better to learn than to join a random pub game and get flammed for sucking.Â
