Final Fantasy IV DS - [fr31ns]Karrde - 07-26-2008 So did anyone else besides me pick this bad boy up? It's really quite good, I think. I love how the mechanics basically remain unchanged and even where they coulda improved, they didn't. It's really like playing the orignal with an updated traslation, prettier graphics and some voiced scenes. Rather quite nice. Also, seems a HELL of a lot less forgiving than even FFIV advance. Mom Bomb on Mt. Kolts 1 hit killed everyone with explode the first time. Lets just say that's never happened before. Re: Final Fantasy IV DS - Wedge - 07-26-2008 Is it out in English now? I haven't checked coz' I just play FFTA2 on DS now c.c'. And I didn't even try Trauma Center 2 or Metal Slug 7 yet. Re: Final Fantasy IV DS - CaffeinePowered - 07-26-2008 Ive been focusing more on FFTA2 than this, but its amazing, buy it Re: Final Fantasy IV DS - Dave - 07-26-2008 ff3 ds was shit, even with everything possable done, the second dungeon in the game was impossable. Actually after you get past that it gets quite good, except for the last dungeon god that was a bitch. The problem is every FF game after 3 gives you save points in the dungeon. I can't believe that they didn't change that in the remake, its such a bitch that you can't use a tent or save in them. Re: Final Fantasy IV DS - cbre88x - 07-26-2008 No..it's a bitch that you get a limited number of pheonix downs and sleeping in an Inn doesn't revive or fix abnormalities. Grind your level and dont die Also if I remember correctly there was a 'holy well' in all of the towns that would restore status/KO Re: Final Fantasy IV DS - KarthXLR - 07-26-2008 I just got it yesterday, it's quite good. I'm enjoying my first Final Fantasy very much. (yeah yeah haters, come and get me) Re: Final Fantasy IV DS - CaffeinePowered - 07-26-2008 (07-26-2008, 05:56 PM)KarthXLR link Wrote: I just got it yesterday, it's quite good. 4 is a good place to start...even if its the remake Re: Final Fantasy IV DS - Yomanz - 07-26-2008 4 is pretty good, but 6 is the best. They better remake that for DS as well. @karth: i can't hate you for enjoying it. As a matter of fact it's good that your getting into the series. Re: Final Fantasy IV DS - ZargonX - 07-26-2008 I picked up FFIV this week, but it's in line behind FFTA2 and TWEWY right now... Re: Final Fantasy IV DS - JoKeRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR - 07-26-2008 I left my R4 in my friends DS . Normally I would buy this, but it would be the third time I'm buying basically the same game, so fuck that shit. Re: Final Fantasy IV DS - rumsfald - 07-26-2008 I dislike the kiddie 3d avatarts that square used in the FFIII remake, revanant wings, now this. They look like mongloid babies. There, I said it. Edit: I'm not saying I like the Devil_may_cry_cutscenes either. The in-game heads are too big, round, and look like muppet babies. I like the stuff because it feels the closest 3d approximation of having lo-fi cute sprites. If they were all done up like... well like those cutscenes, I think it would lose any sense of nostalgia. Also the cg cutscenes are dumb. [/quote] QFT Re: Final Fantasy IV DS - [fr31ns]Karrde - 07-28-2008 Yeah I agree, I'm glad they didn't alter most of the art significantly or gameplay mechanics. It wouldn't feel like FFIV then. But damn, they really cranked the difficulty on this. Was able to play through the PS and GBA versions no problem. I've gotten my ass handed to me by three seperate bosses now. Mom bomb, Scarmiglione (second form) and Dark Elf/Dark Dragon. They've given some of these bastards some new tricks and they hit a lot harder. Especially dark elf. If you haven't ben grinding a lot and someone dies, you're not getting them back due to the fact that he hits everyone for about 500 dmg with an attack he seems to do every other go. Think I'm gonna have to alter tactics a bit and lead with haste. Maybe I can hit him with some status or something. Re: Final Fantasy IV DS - [fr31ns]Karrde - 08-01-2008 Hmmmmm, I've just about decided that a lot of the modifications to the bosses are crap. Wish they'd left well enough alone. The doctor in tower of babil. Uses reverse breath on all characters. 100% effective rate. makes offensive things heal and defensive things hurt. DOes it at random so you can't predict when the effect will reverse itself (since only by using it again can it be removed). Hard to use anything that has any charge time since he might reverse it and you end up healing him. Not to mention his restore attack tends to drop rosa and rydia instantly and nearly kills everyone else. The pacing in this game is all wrong. Still, I'm enjoying it. It's like they tried to make certain things more useful, but didn't test them enough. |
