Console gaming in a bad state if what will probably be my most played game of 2008 could be released as a nes title but im not complaining (although I do wish Megaman 9 was 16-bit but maybe they will do that for a future Megaman x). I just got finish beating Megaman 1-7 and a NOT pirated version of Megaman and Bass. I started last Monday and have slowly been chugging my way through. Heres how I would list them...
Megaman 2 (my favorite nes game)
Megaman & Bass (gba version does it no justice)
Megaman 3
Megaman (this was my first time playing it actually)
Megaman 4 ( megaman 2/3 clone with worse bosses)
Megaman 7 (story was ok but as a kid it always disappointed me)
Megaman 6 (why was rush my suit)
Megaman 5 (crappy weapons, bad bosses and bad rush uses)
How would you list them?
Anybody know if Megaman 8 is worth tracking down? I actually found both the game and a saturn at a flea market but turned it down as the dude wanted $50 for them. I still might try to find 8 for the ps1 on ebay if its worth it (it wont take much, I found a listing on ebay for $1.50 and in state shipping). I know I can get the anniversary collection but I played 1-4 and 6 on NES (my 5 wouldnt work no matter how much I blew it) and 7 on snes, and all the people I have talked to said 8 was absolutely butchered in the port.

The Anniversary Collection has all 8 of the games, plus the amazing arcade fighters. As for the best one, the one with the communist is my personal favorite. Not a huge fan of any of them though.

X4 is my favorite Megaman overall, but it was the only ps1 game i had for like 6 months after we got robbed. That probably swayed my opinion.

Now we are TALKING. I am so excited for Megaman 9 that I might buy it on OTHER people's xbox/wii/ps3 even if I own it on my wii. Just so they play it and Capcom goes OH SHIT LOOK AT ALL THE MONEY.
Rankings(For the nes games, screw the X games):
Megaman 2 (I fucking love quickman's stage. So much.)
Megaman 5 (I also can't get enough of Gravityman's stage. So cool.)
Megaman 3 (Music alone can't make it the best. But the title screen alone can entertain me for hours.)
Megaman 6 (It is a breeze to play through, but there are some great tunes hiding in this one.)
Megaman 4 (FUCK YOU RINGMAN. FUCK YOU.)
Megaman 1 (....grr.)

You don't have to look too far to track it down. Probably a lot cheaper than you'll find on eBay too.
I'm definitely looking forward to MM9. I'm actually thinking of getting both the XBLA and the Wii Ware versions. I think I'll like playing it on the Wii more, but people are going on and on about how "hard" the achievements are and how "hard" the game is going to be that I feel the need to show them just how much they suck. ^_^

I like 2 better than 3 for one reason only. 3 can start arguments about boss orders. I've had many a nights huddled around the vodka bottle and the nes controller fighting over which boss to start with. But, it is still the best menu music ever.

What do you mean? I've beaten 2 using no special abilities unless you need to and the jet for Heat Man's stage (as I had no inclination to memorize those blocks
), and I've beaten X with no upgrades and no special abilities.
