Must have software list - Surf314 - 09-02-2008 Instead of bumping the previous topic that went very off topic I thought I'd just create a new one. List of must have software to put on any clean install (or to grab if you missed them) Vent MS Office or Open Office Chatzilla, MIRC or Xchat Firefox + Rss Ticker Steam Utorrent or Azureus (anyone got anything better?) Adobe Reader + Flash Now u! I install the PowerPoint viewer, which is free from the Microsoft site and pretty useful if you never intend to author any publications but require the read-only functionality (I'm assuming there are counterparts for spreadsheets and documents?) Ain's gonna shoot you for not mentioning irssi. Fuck Azureus. I realise Java is great for multi-platformability but it's a bloated POS. I'm guessing there are alternatives to uTorrent with similarly light footprints available for Linux and OSX? Replace Adobe Reader with FoxIt, again for reasons of bloat. Re: Must have software list - Surf314 - 09-02-2008 Oh I'm talking about Vista/XP OSX has pretty slick backup and restore features as well as migration so I got everything from my old OSX =D Also irssi is for linux and stupid Xchat is not freeware for windows, because apparently they hate windows and want to be paid for the hassle of porting it. Any other tips would be nice. Alt+1, 2, 3, etc to switch between "windows" (I'm sure Ain will correct my terminology but the mulitple sessions running within the irssi box for different channels, queries, etc). I'm guessing the channel is just hidden behind the server. Re: Must have software list - hawtpawkithero - 09-02-2008 Social music player, links to your xbox live account if you have one. It may not be good for background music while working on things as it has a pretty large footprint, but the tradeoffs are still worth it as this music player is amazing. Definitely check it out. And if it doesn't right off the bat, you can customize the controls in it somewhere.
