Halp - CaffeinePowered - 11-04-2008 So, yea...not often that I ask for computer help. So I finished acquiring fallout 3, but find that it crashes on new game. So I try a lot of the "fixes" I've been finding such as shutting off gamerOSD and CardDoctor that I have for my Asus card. Additionally I update my Sound Blaster XFI Fatality to its latest drivers and now I cant transmit voice in HL2. The driver version is 6.0.1.1361, I can't roll back the driver so I think I am going to try a system restore, which I think should roll back my audio driver, but the problem with fallout still looms. Any help or troubleshooting would be appreciated. Current OS: Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 Video: GTX280 Audio: SB XFI Fatality MB: Asus M2N32 SLI Deluxe Re: Halp - Spore - 11-04-2008 Some of the torrents I was not browsing for clues might have said that they didn't work in 64bit Vista in big capital letters. It would be helpful if you said what you didn't get your Fallout 3 from. Edit: You could try this. FIXED...enabled UAC, right click on the shortcut for Fallout 3, properties, compatibility tab, check "run this program as administrator". UAC has to be enabled in order to toggle this setting. Rolled back sound drivers and managed to fix TF2 problem. Still gotta find a fix for fallout Re: Halp - copulatingduck - 11-05-2008 Set up an XP partition? Did you look through the comments on the torrent you got it from? Sometimes those can be pretty helpful. Sorry I can't be more helpful, I've never used Vista, ever. :-\ Re: Halp - HeK - 11-05-2008 Buy it and hope for vendor support? x2 for not using Vista. Re: Halp - CaffeinePowered - 11-05-2008 Well if I can't absolutely get it to run I CAN boot into XP and try to run it. I'd like to take full advantage of DX10 though... Re: Halp - ToiletDuck - 11-05-2008 tried some tricks from here? http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1360061&page=2 do you have ffdshow installed? apparently installing the k-lite codec pack fixes it for some. Videos are in the .bik format Bink video player. check C:\Program Files\Fallout 3\Data\Video try the k-lite codec pack, or try the CCCP, is what i use. http://www.cccp-project.net/ after that, if it isnt workin, find a way to view them movies outside of the game to check if they are what's making you crash. and/or rename the folder that the videos are in and hope the game skips playing them and doesn't spaz Re: Halp - CaffeinePowered - 11-05-2008 I tried the ffds thing, basically before I installed the game I had the CCCP installed. Didn't work, so I replaced with the K-Lite codec pack, and did the FFDS exclusion thing. I also exited out of GamerOSD and SmartDoctor video card utilities. I can try playing the movies out side of the game and see what happens. If they wont run or theres a problem Ill go back to the CCCP since its likely that I had an older version installed. Re: Halp - Vandamguy - 11-05-2008 did you try ? and/or rename the folder that the videos are in and hope the game skips playing them and doesn't spaz ? Re: Halp - Eschatos - 11-05-2008 You could try buying the game. I've heard that helps. People that bought the game are having the same damn problem, this is part of the reason its good to try before you buy. Why should I flush $50 down the toilet if its gonna be a huge pain in the ass to run it. Re: Halp - CaffeinePowered - 11-05-2008 Alright so far Ive tried the following from doing google searches and here's the results Uninstall GamerOSD - FO3 won't boot at all, and make the video settings anything Disable FFDS Audio on Fallout3.exe - Game still hangs after clicking new game K-Lite Codec Pack vs CCCP - Both latest versions fail Run Videos outside of game - Wont run in windows media player Run in XP - Half tried, I will need to install separately for XP as it wont boot otherwise without certain extra DLLs in place Different Video Settings from Low to Ultra - Not Yet tried, crashes on High and Ultra Re: Halp - Ianki - 11-06-2008 Man, that sucks. Wish i could help. I had a lot of problems running programs in vista 64 in my lab before i switched it back to XP, but this is like a kick in the balls for a fan who just wants to be pleasantly surprised. Ugh, kick in the balls to a fan who won't pay for the game maybe. I can understand being worried about the game sucking and wanting to try it, but you can't exactly be pissed off if your pirated copy somehow doesn't work. :-\ Re: Halp - CaffeinePowered - 11-06-2008 (11-06-2008, 08:21 AM)CopulatingDuck link Wrote: [quote author=Ianki link=topic=1709.msg48030#msg48030 date=1225958188] Ugh, kick in the balls to a fan who won't pay for the game maybe. This is part of the reason companies should RELEASE FUCKING DEMOS. I may have to completely wipe and reinstall vista now since it wont load my display drivers at all and Im getting a code 39 error and no matter how many times I uninstall and reinstall the device driver (and redownload files fresh), it won't install properly and I can't run any games what so ever. Luckily, aside from some basic programs, I keep all my data on my non-windows drives, so Ill probably wipe and reinstall today after work. |
