Re: Best of 2008 - Surf314 - 12-03-2008

Movie?
Edit: Shit I forgot about Wall-E

Book?
Anathem - book blew me away

Video Game?
Left 4 Dead - I know it's not very original but its the game I'm the most obsessed over and the overall gameplay and presentation are incredible even if it desperately needs some bug fixes.

Album?
TV on the Radio: Dear Science - I've got a bunch of other albums I've enjoyed this year but this one is the most innovative and just cool.

Comic?
Toss up:
Jack of Fables: The bad prince: He's just an awesome character
Northlanders: Sven the Returned - Brian Wood has become one of those authors I will have to read everything he does.  This take on Norse fiction is amazing.  I looked through his reading list he posted on his site, I can see how he does so good with all his stories he takes things seriously.

Re: Best of 2008 - Vongore - 12-03-2008

Movie:

Wall-E, one of the best Disney masterpieces i've seen in years

Book:

MP3 - a book by a chilean guy whose name i'm too lazy tom check. Consists on 5 different stories about 5 different youngsters on their 18-20s on different social situations. It's awesome

Album:

Lucybell - Comiendo Fuego.  My favorite Chilean band with a new album = Awesome

Video Game:

Super Smash Bros Brawl - No, really, even if there are other games with better graphics, fanbase (because this is important on big websites decision) Or gameplay, SSBB is the game i've played the most this yerar and i'm still not bored :>. It's a fun game that can be played with anyone

Comic:

No comics this year

Isn't this 2066?  Or am I thinking of another....oh yea no sorry.  The one I'm thinking of has just been translated to english, so it wouldn't be a 2008 book in chile.

Movie?
The Dark Knight. A epic masterpiece that had me a bit more interested than Wall-e.
Book?
Didn't read many books from this year. So I'll have to hand up Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy because it's epic.
Video Game?
Left 4 Dead. We had a bit of a game drought this year, and this stirred things up about.
Album?
Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends - Coldplay. Again, haven't gotten to many albums this year, but this is one I keep bringing up in my head.
Comic?
lolcomics. I can't say anything for it since I don't read them.

Book?
I can't think of any new books that I've read this year. Cryptonomicon gets an honorary.

Video Game?
Left4Dead. I haven't bought many new games this year.

Album?
I've been listening to old stuff most of this year. Dig, Lazarus, Dig, I guess.

Movie?
Dark Knight. It was such a nice return to the original feel instead of this playful bullshit the 90's movies were. Everything about this movie was fantastic.

Book?
I didn't read any books that were released this year. If someone wants to recommend a good read for the holiday break I'd love to look into it.

Video Game?
I still haven't played a lot of the great anticipated releases this year..well not the full games anyways..mostly the demos, but regardless..

Metal Gear Solid 4. Hands down. The story is convoluted if you haven't looked into it and haven't played all the canon games, but if you have..the conclusion is worth it. The way Kojima tells stories is simply amazing plus the use of ambiguity in symbolism. And the ending really hit the grand slam. Not just because the shock value, but because of what and how you are driven to think about the things you love the most and the choices you make in life.

Album?
The Mars Volta- Bedlam In Goliath

Comic?
Don't really read comics.

Book?
Didn't read any book released in 2008 :/
Video Game?
Mother 3, if it counts. I'm looking forward to Prince of Persia. Also haven't played MGS4.
Album?
TV on the Radio - Dear Science.
Comic?
Didn't read any comic book released in 2008 :\

lololololololol

This is why picking a "Best Game of 2008" is such a retarded task. Not everyone likes the same thing in games, or even the same genres. Of the games in Ianki's list that I *have* played, I don't think any of them come even close to best of 2008; maybe in their given genre though :-\. Some of the others I hear have potential, but I've been busy and haven't played a few.

Book?
Best book that came out in 2008?  I dunno, might be a cop out, but When You Are Engulfed in Flames, David Sedaris.  Wish i could go to japan to quit smoking...

Best book i read in 2008?  Surviving Justice,  edited by Dave Eggers, narritves by ex-prisoners who have been exonerated by DNA or other means.  Really goes into depth of how easy it is for police or prosecutorial misconduct to get an innocent person sent to death row, and the extraordinary measures required to prove you didn't do it even in light of hard proof of someone elses guilt or your own innocence

Video Game?
GTA4, hands down,
Mega Man 9 is a great second

Album?
Starfucker - Starfucker,
Justice - Planispher,
Santogold - Santogold,
Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks - Real Emotional Trash,
