Hey, that is pretty cool.

I'll ask my brother what he thinks about it. He's got a bunch of Korg gear and soft-synths in his studio.

I got it for Christmas, been playing around with it for a bit. Really cool if you have any interest in music creation or synthesis. Not analog butt still pretty awesome.

That looks better than I thought it would. I might have to buy it. Is there a way to connect it to your PC?

Not that I know of aside from the 1/8" out.

Re: Korg DS-10 opinions? - bjlsurfer - 01-04-2009

I've been playing with it.  I'm a casual musician, but haven't messed much with this sort of thing before, aside from screwing around with Fruity Loops on the computer a while ago.  It's really flexible, though pretty much everything has a synthesized lo-fi feel. It's not the easiest thing to just jump into and start creating with, but I learned pretty quickly.  IMHO pretty fun to dick around with, and if you're a music person, (especially if you're into synths and that sort of thing) I think it's worth checking out (or not downloading the .nds file of).

No way to get stuff to your computer other than just using a 1/8 cable and something like Audacity.

I'm going to play with this later on and then I'll give my opinion on it.

Also, Dave's opinion on mucisians doesn't count.

Thanks for the commentary, share back as you play with it.

I ordered one. I'm not a musician, can't read music, but I do dabble a bit with self-taught guitar. Which basically means my repertoire is one power chord. But I am usually stubborn enough to stick with the KorgDS to get something out of it.

Just so folks don't think my shout-out to Deiv (what is this new spelling, French?) was a drive-by, it was a reference to this mini-flamewar.

Re: Korg DS-10 opinions? - ScottyGrayskull - 01-04-2009

I wanted to get the Korg DS-10, as I swore EB had it on sale for $20. Turned out it's $40 though. :-\

Re: Korg DS-10 opinions? - Mission Difficult - 01-04-2009

So far I really like it. Perfect for those rides on the subway when I get a little melody or rhythm in my head and don't want to forget it. Pretty flexible synthesizer and drum machine. Only complaint I might have is the grid doesn't have too high of a step resolution, but that's pretty negligible considering what it can do. Love the bit of semi modular they've thrown in, keeping true to the original. Still haven't been able to route the drums through any kind of CV input as on the MS-20, but maybe that's too much for this little thing. Also curios about the multiplayer portion.

Re: Korg DS-10 opinions? - Mission Difficult - 01-05-2009

The second demo song has a little Kraftwerk going on.

Re: Korg DS-10 opinions? - rumsfald - 01-09-2009

Got mine last night, played with it on the train today (hi Caff, how was your commute today?).

Initial impression: very fun, very impressed.

It's definitely not a game. And it is definitely not a musical instrument. More of a musical toy. I would imagine that, to like it, you would need, at least,
- some musical inclination (I am tone-deaf and have no training, but I am curious about music)
- some musical knowledge (I know some effect names and functions (chorus, distortion, flanger), which helps with the learning curve)

I had a blast making looping patterns today. very monotonous, looping patterns (not a song). but I had a huge smile on my face while doing so. I am hoping that this toy will teach me more about music, or motivate me to get more edumacated elsewhere.

I would get this, but the touchscreen on my DS is fucked up. Sad

I caught the last 15 minutes of Buckaroo Banzai on TV a month ago.
I had no idea what was going on.
