halp :< - Versus - 01-21-2009 Ok, so, I was loading my fourth Dawn of War II game, when my computer froze. I turned it off, turned it back on, wouldn't go to Windows. It'd let me select between Windows XP and Windows 7 (which didn't work either). I turned off my PSU, unplugged my power cord, and let my computer sit for 10 minutes, then plugged it back in and turned it on. Same thing. D: edit: safe mode didn't work either. Re: halp :< - Mission Difficult - 01-21-2009 What happens when you select windows 7 or XP? does it just hang for both or what? More information is required. Re: halp :< - Versus - 01-21-2009 yeah, they both hang. and they're on separate hard drives. Re: halp :< - HeK - 01-21-2009 How far do you get in the boot process before they hang? Re: halp :< - Versus - 01-22-2009 I hit enter on safe mode, last known good config, start windows normally, etc., my screen goes black, and it stays that way. I tried leaving it alone to boot for about 10 minutes, but nothing happened. Re: halp :< - Blues - 01-22-2009 unhook the hard drive with 7 on it before booting, tell us what happens. Re: halp :< - Versus - 01-22-2009 ok, I didn't know which one had Windows 7 on it, so I just tried unplugging random hard drives, one at a time, and it worked, although it wasn't the Windows 7 one. There's a few reasons that a hard drive unrelated to the Windows install can make the boot hang/freeze, and most of them end with the HDD exploding into flame and BURNING YOU ALIVE. Well, maybe not, but if you can get the drive working, back up your data as soon as possible, just in case. I've had this happen to me a few times and it was generally right before the drive died, though once I just needed to format and it was fine. |
