Anyone know how front panel eSATA ports work - zaneyard - 01-22-2009 I know that in order to use front USB Audio and firewire ports, your mobo has to have "onboard" usb, audio, firewire. does eSATA work the same way, or does the front eSATA port on the case connect to a regular SATA II port on the mobo? anyone have any experience with this? Re: Anyone know how front panel eSATA ports work - Mission Difficult - 01-22-2009 From my experience it's just a jumper that goes to one of your mobo's sata ports. Re: Anyone know how front panel eSATA ports work - HeK - 01-22-2009 That's how I've seen it. Even the rear eSata plate that came with my motherboard works that way. No idea how the drive is expected to get power. Re: Anyone know how front panel eSATA ports work - Mission Difficult - 01-22-2009 All eSata drives I've seen have had power supplies, kind of lame but I guess that's just how it works. Re: Anyone know how front panel eSATA ports work - zaneyard - 01-22-2009 thanks guys, i knew that eSATA devices usually get power by themselves. i was not sure how it connected to the mobo so my suspicions on it connecting directly to a SATA II port were correct thanks alot |
