joker vs joker - MrGrey - 02-16-2009 I have to bring this up again... A war has been going on in my mind about who is the better joker, at first I was fixed on Nicholson and nothing could change my mind. Then I watched Dark Knight for a week straight and leaned more towards Ledger... I havent seen the original batman in quite some time and I'm sure most haven't either... I think that because the dark knight is so recent and its fresh in everyones mind they lean more towards Ledger. But I just watched the original batman and I've made up my mind, Nicholson is by far the best Joker and no one will ever compare. Any thoughts? (please go back and watch the original before making a final judgement... even if you've seen it 100 times its best to have it fresh in your minds) Re: joker vs joker - fyre - 02-16-2009 I've only seen both of those movies once each. I need to watch them both again. On a similar note, I recently rewatched Batman Begins and I think it might be a better film than TDK. I really need to rewatch TDK though. Re: joker vs joker - Scary Womanizing Pig Mask - 02-16-2009 Thought this would be about our Jokerrrrrr :/ Re: joker vs joker - CaffeinePowered - 02-16-2009 I think both play a very different joker and both actors do a superb job in their respective roles, comparing them is like apples and oranges Re: joker vs joker - Squishy3 - 02-16-2009 It's a shame Ledger died after the movie was finished, at least he goes down with a superb role, he was a good actor before TDK though, I hate all the people who go "oh he's an amazing actor just for the joker durr hurr I haven't seen any of his other movies" fuck you he was awesome in lords of dogtown and the brothers grimm Re: joker vs joker - Benito Mussolini - 02-16-2009 JoKeRRRRRRRRR is the best.
This. Both were good, well-acted characters, but I prefer Ledger because his character seemed to me to be truer to the original comic book version. Also The Dark Knight spent a lot more time fleshing out the Joker's character and making him generally more complex; since Nicholson's Joker showed up in the first movie of that series, they spent most of the film on Batman's character, not leaving much time left to really delve into the Joker's motivations. I prefer the sadistic Joker too, but that's not really how the two acted as much as how they were written. Both were good and uncomparable, etc etc etc. Also Joker is the best. Around. If you're playing it like that, you may as well rule out ever having discussions about acting merit. De Niro and Pacino are the names that always seem to come up in these debates but they have have never played the same role so clearly you can't even compare their talent.
We're not talking about relative acting ability though. For that, my answer would be that I think Ledger's career was too short to really compare. I'd certainly say that Ledger was a more versatile actor (could play more different types of roles). BUt then again, nobody does crazy like Jack Nicholson. The laugh alone makes him, although the depth to the character allowed by a full television series really makes him my favourite. ^_^ If you go purely by the movie Jokers though I honestly don't know. Nicholson's Joker had the look and the style, whereas Ledger's had the attitude. Re: joker vs joker - Surf314 - 02-17-2009 Heath Ledger's Joker is truer to the comics in my opinion. Of course Jack Nicholson is awesome but his version was more like the TV show.
