what would happen - MrGrey - 03-08-2009

if you dropped a cell phone into a bathtub or hottub that you were sitting in... electrocution? or no, cuz there is no constant power source..

Re: what would happen - MrGrey - 03-08-2009

seriously..what would happen

Re: what would happen - Versus - 03-08-2009

your phone would probably break, not much else

Re: what would happen - Luinbariel - 03-08-2009

Your phone would probably work alright for awhile; I don't think it would really shock you or anything though.

Once the phone dries out it'll work for a week, maybe a few months, and then it will start to fuck up in odd ways like mine did when it was in the washer for a few minutes.

Suddenly buttons triggered the completely wrong functions, the ringer was stuck off for some reason and I couldn't answer it after a few weeks. HeK fixed it by cleaning it with alcohol... so you might be able to do that, or just get a new phone.

Re: what would happen - MrGrey - 03-08-2009

would it shock you?

Re: what would happen - Versus - 03-08-2009

probably not, and if it did, it would be very minor

Yeah, get 200 of them together and you save $10 in theaters.

Also, no shock. The phone would protect you. There is no potential coming out of the phone...

If you drop a connected toaster or hairdryer into your tub, it would not shock you. Fresh water does not conduct electricity well.
If you were to add an electrolyte such bath salts, then you'd get a nifty zap before your GFP breaker would release.

But...but...those warnings? :-\

I was watching a tv show once, and this guy was in a hotel somewhere in the Middle East or Africa or something. Someone dumped a whole basket of snakes into his room while he was sleeping. So he turned on the faucet (conveniently located near his bed) let it overflow onto the floor, then cut a lamp cord and stripped the coating off and dropped it in the water. Fried snake. I wish I could remember what show that was.

This thread is about as intelligent as
Quote:Everytime i try to shoot a Scout with Bonk i always miss and not because the bonk effect, because the Scout is on "defense" mode and pass through me jumping and running anyway. So unless the Scout drink the bonk right next to me, it's hard to aim anyway (the only situation i can figure is a corridor, and your oponent is a Heavy)

Re: what would happen - CaffeinePowered - 03-09-2009

Your phone will die, you however, will not

Re: what would happen - SAVAGE-0 - 03-09-2009

they did a mythbusters on this (not cellphones but the tub shock deal) and found it was not very easy to get enough current and that they needed something fairly old and an outlet with no trip to actually kill someone.. a cell phone wouldnt do anything at all from what I can tell.

Re: what would happen - Mr. Face - 03-09-2009

you'd feel like an idiot after screaming as it falls...
then you'd sit there... and eventually think "Shit, i broke my phone"

Don't most newer phones have some built-in safeguards on the battery that prevent the battery from providing any power while the contacts are wet? Some you can dry and be good, others you have to replace the battery (or so I've heard)

There's videos of a computer running completely submerged in deionized water, if you drop so much as like a crystal of salt in it the entire thing will fuck up. Water with nothing in it conducts no electricity
