I will add my worthless opinion on the matter

through my perception.. the classics are the best, the real question is... are they great because they are classics or truly better games.  In my opinion, the older games NES, SEGA, GAMEBOY, SNES were so incredible because of the simplicity.  It showed me that fancy graphics and explosions don't make a video game but the play itself.  Kind of like a movie, the story and art involved is always key... not the CGI.
