Dungeons and Dragons - Sponson - 05-10-2009
Do you guys play?
If so, what version do you prefer, what classes interest you/do you play the most?
And a question about actual role playing, how often do you metagame? Is it easy to open up to new groups and just "role play"?
I've been drawn in around the end of 3.5, about a year before 4.0 came out.
I liked the complex interactions and "floating" ambiguous rules. I found myself playing melee characters more than spellcasters (but holy hell were the casters fun when I did), but nothing from the gay book of nine swords.
I almost never use classes outside the PHB and DMG, generally sticking to the tried and trusted. I think I've played a Scout once upon a game. I would like to RP more, but it feels so weird, especially if no one else does it, or metagames hard core, or acts totally out of character.
"You take 6 con damage"
"Okay, I'm going to sleep for 6 days"
"What are you? Some sort of wanderer?"
"No, I'm a "favored soul"."
"How bad are your wound? Are they light, moderate, or serious?"
(At least its better than "You've taken 23 points of damage last combat, let me heal you."
How do you discourage instances like those?
Just the other day I started playing the Bard, while you can't call him a power-class by way of statistics and rules, you can call him a roleplaying powerhouse.
How would you guys feel about roleplaying on this forum?

We have tried to start a game online in here (check the Big Boys part of the forums). With me as a DM.
About 16 people sounded interested, but only 4 sent what I asked.

I haven't really played pen n paper games for about a year now, but the group I used to play with ran both DnD and World of Darkness. Personally I never really enjoyed DnD that much. The amount of charts, tables, instances to roll dices, etc. always kind of turned me off. The World of Darkness stuff was more my taste. Not so much because of the setting, but because the system was a lot easier to get into as a beginner and infinitely easier to roleplay with.Â
Also, last I checked, Benito was trying to organize a forum game of DnD down in the Big Boys forum, but I got busy towards the end of school and haven't really checked in on it in awhile.

I wish people still played Shadowrun. If no one knows of Shadowrun think of it as a mix of bladerunner and LOTRs.

Well tbh we were all busy with school, some of us still are. I'm not. I couldn't do shit because of finals.
As for all the charts and stuff. In the beginning it was hard to get used to, but realize its not like you're picking up 35 books at once, its PHB and DMG and thats probably it.
Charts include at most: Bonus Spells per Day, Spells you know by level, and Spells you cast per day.
A good dm could and would help the beginner anyway.
I like being able to roleplay, and then have my character's abilities actually determine what I can or can't do, or if I succeed or don't.
Its a little more personalized when you try to determine if you should put points into riding or diplomacy.
Benito, you up for DMing again? We need a subforum for this stuff.

If I get a list or people who are seriously willing to play, I'd enjoy doing stuff.
Hell, it's not like it takes a lot of time to be a player. It's the DM that needs to prepare for stuff.

Sorry, I totally no longer have the time to play. I now have a job and a Warhammer group that I'm playing with on one of my days off, so... things got busier than anticipated.
