It isn't that there are eight of them, at least maybe it is in this joke; but how I interpreted it was as follows.

It can only say "yes" or "no", and when it says yes that's what it looks like. Otherwise it's blue and has more sides. So, I thought rummy was saying "YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES".

This is funny because at some point in the movie when Flynn is driving something and is about to crash, Bit is screaming "NO NO NO NO NO NO NO"

I don't really like how the faces are awkwardly CG'ed into the helmets... that looked really weird.  Anyways, this still has a lot to live up to, just because it's replacing Tron 2.0, which was kind of fucking great.

I'm almost entirely positive that is on purpose.

Also Tron is one of my favorite movies of all time, and if you don't like it I will throw my death frisbee at you.
