Thinking about College/Career thread?

ROTC is the least painful way to a commission.  Navy ROTC pays more if I remember correctly, but you'll do pretty well (scholarship $$ wise) in any of them.  Student Loan Repayment for Non-ROTC types like me is also pretty good.

for me, radio has my future, remaining terrestrial for 5-7 years, going up to satellite radio, maybe moving back to become a music director, retiring rich, spend the rest of my life in Japan,Russia,Britain or Australia....maybe Austria.

Don't waste any opportunities. You will change a lot in your life but go for what you are most passionate in. If you can do something 14 hours and still want to go back the next day then you've found your calling. I think film could be a good fit for you but you have to face the fact that it's a hard field to break into. My uncle and aunt are both producers and their stories can help you get an idea of what to expect. My uncle is a reality TV guy and is pretty good at it but keeps getting stuck at crap shows (except for american gladiator). He was the american guy to localize the first season of American Idol from the british version and the two british guys that brought the show over threw him under the bus for the second season on and went alone. My aunt on the other hand is also very good but keeps getting jobs at a mid-producer level mostly because she is a woman and it's harder for women in the industry. She worked for extra extra for a long time and then they pushed her out because being young and "fresh" seems to have more weight then in any other industry for obvious reasons. But whatever I'm ranting now.

Anyways going back to the important thing: never give up an opportunity for laziness. I took hard classes I was interested in for my electives in college and never regretted it. I did not finish my honors thesis because "I'll probably never go back to school anyways" and regretted it ever since. When it comes to school you get a narrow window, it's not very fair but it's the way it is. In 4 years with possibly more after depending on occupation you have to figure out what you want from life, what you enjoy, what you will work your ass off for, and most likely who you will marry. If you can figure that out going in and still build up a lifetime worth of good memories and fun you will be the best equipped to graduate in your class. So basically just always do your best and pursue anything you are interested in and you will regret nothing later.

I have no idea what I would possibly go to school for. I say biology but don't mean it.

I'm hoping that I'll catch a break with my band and we can get a label and make money doing what we actually unconditionally love doing. That's wishful thinking though.
Although we do have a show in DeKalb in October for part of their octoberfest or whatever festival it is. Baby steps, I guess.

There has been a few jobs I've thrown back and forth, and some of my passions that strongly point me towards a certain major. I enjoy cooking a lot, but at the same time, it's a demanding job.

Funny looking back at this. I burnt my hand the month after I posted this. Coincidentally, I didn't want to have a culinary major after that. :p

As an update, College has been very kind to me. All of my classes are, at the very least, interesting and my professor's all have a good sense of humor and seem fairly chill. Homework, while not always easy, has been extremely manageable compared to high school. The people here are great, you can pretty much start a conversation with anybody. On top of it all, I've gone to a concert with a girl.

I'm undeclared in business school and one of the governing concerns I found I have is job security. Last year all but 2 accounting graduates had job offers out of college and that has made accounting my intended path. for the moment at least.

but my point is check out the predicted demand for certain jobs and majors before you choose.
