Need a program to access a Mac-formatted drive from windows

It's all in the title. My editing class uses Powermacs and requires a mac-formatted drive to use throughout the semester. Formatting repeatedly is not an option. What are some good programs to read and write files from a mac-drive? The one thing I keep seeing pop up on google is a program called MacDrive, but it doesn't get great reviews from what I've seen. Do you guys have any suggestions?

Macdrive offers a free trial. Give it a shot. I've only used it a handful of times but it seemed to work.

Which version of OSX are you using at school?

If you keep the individual files under 4GB (4,294,967,296 bytes) you could format a portable drive in FAT32 to use between pretty much any modern OS you encounter.

If you need to go above this limit, (and you don't want to run Linux, as most distros have native HFS+ support) you can use Paragon HFSforWindows (http://www.paragon-software.com/home/hfs-windows/) or MacDrive as suggested above (http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive/standard/). Paragon is cheaper, but I cannot comment about compatibility for either.

There are open-source drivers to HFS+ for Windows, but I don't believe any allow for full read/write.
