skype is free isnt it? i just made a call and it says "calls to USA, 21cents per min" wtf is that? how would they charge me? something with my ISP?

In order to make calls to landlines you need to have skype credits, which is basically money. You buy skype credits and it takes that off from your account. If you registered a credit card with skype it may take it from there. Either way it won't let you make the call in the first place unless you have the money to do it.

well how would they charge me? i called my mom, made the call successfully. I didnt put in any credit card info or anything so how in the hell would they charge me for that call?

Usually when you make a new Skype account you get so many free credits. Enough to make a few free phone calls, nothing more.
