So you're saying it's a 50/50 split between casual players and competitive ones?  Not even close.  If casual players leave, there is no one to play the game with.  Competitive players (certainly at a tourny level anyways) make up a very very small percentage of the player base, whether they realize it or not.  Though TF2's player base (has always) been depressingly small to begin with, considering how much effort goes into supporting it.

the population isnt 50/50 at all. its just whenever a competitive community leaves the game wholesale the game tends to die just the same as if a pub community left. although tf2 may end differently due to the patches being 100% pub based. its pretty clear where the focus has been since day 1
