So, I reformatted my mom's computer, and the internet was working fine before.
Now with a clean install, whenever I try to connect to the internet, I get: Error Connecting to Sympatico Connecting through WAN Miniport (PPPoE)... Error 769: The specified destination is not reachable. Obviously, the internet still works because I'm posting this. I just have no idea what to do. The username and password are fine, as they are in use on both my router and my 360... My 360 and my mom's computer are both directly connected to the modem/box in my basement, whereas my computer is connected to my router. |

I assume you are using DSL?
Why not just ditch the PPPoE dialer and connect everything into the router? |

I ran a 100 ft. ethernet cable from my desktop to the router at home...

It's also possible that your ISP only allows a fixed number of concurrent connections per modem/account.
Was it working before with the same dialer software? You may have to call them up to deal with the ill-conceived mess that is PPPoE. But seriously, man up: |

It worked fine until I did a clean install of XP.
It's worked fine for the last 7 years. I was thinking maybe it's driver-related or something. :-\ |

It was a driver.

If you're dead set against running cable (when I eventually buy a house, I'm going to make it nice and easy to run cable between any given room) try upgrading the firmware on your NIC, updated the drivers, then see what happens. Â I'm assuming it's an OEM windows disc? Â OEM's are RETARDED when it comes to anything with drivers and whatnot and actually getting things to work out of box (see my old thread about SATA AHCI and Dell). Â If it still doesn't work after that....who knows...Seriously, run cable ;P
*edit* Haha, Ninja'd by original poster - like I said, OEM's are fucktarded <+Karrde> welp, time to learn some basic patterning skills <@Negate> 12121212121212121212 <@Negate> there is a simple pattern <+Karrde> I changed my mind. Gonna cosplay as a gay demon from hell and get negate raped instead XD <+Caffeine`work> Karrde: Gay demon? Why would you need to cosplay just go as yourself <+FlyingMongoose> Caffeine`work: Karrde would actually have to tone it down some. |
