So this is always just something that's bugged me and I want to know if there's any way to fix it. I use backspace to go back pages but when on a google search it auto clicks the search bar and backspaces the text not the page. Any way to change that?

get a mouse with navigation buttons.

Poor starving college student who lives on ramen. New mouse is like 20 on my priority list.

Protip: Google is hooking your backspace key with a script, the same type of script that allows us to hit alt+s to post our replies here on the forum instead of pressing Post with the mouse.


The fix?

You could use mouse gestures. Here's the extension I use for Firefox. There are similar extensions for Chrome, and Opera has gestures built-in. Once you get used to them they are ridiculously useful.
