Anybody play this yet? It looks like it'd be up my alley but the reviews seem mixed. Some say it's gritty and awesome, others saying that they tried too hard.

I'm of the opinion most modern shooters try too hard.  You can't have good simulation of combat AND super hero heroics, why? because super hero shit gets you dead, quickly.  I'm looking forward to ARMAIII.

Too many war games these days are all about the Delta Force SEAL types. They need a modern war game that revolves around more of the Low Speed High Drag types. Call of Duty: Modern Fobbit 2

That'd never work.  They'd never be able to accurately simulate an intel analyst who's bored and decided to drink 18 Rip Its on a bet.

But, let me put it this way.  The last living CMOH was given to that marine sergeant for making repeated CASEVAC runs while in the turret and shooting the fuck out of a couple dozen insurgent fighters with a .50cal.  Over 6 hours.

Playing the single player campaign, I spent 15 minutes in BF3 single-handedly destroying over a dozen pieces of Iranian armor and an infantry company.  And that's like 3 over par for these games.

Back to the "doing shit like this gets you killed'  look at the last 3 CMOHs given out to the Special Warfare Community.  (no, I'm not counting SFC Petry, the ranger regiment may fall under SOCOM, but they act operate like normal infantry battalions... they're just very good at it)

Well I ended up downloading the demo yesterday. It feels incredibly scripted and console porty. However, the story is definitely Apocalypse Now in the desert.

Necro'ing this because I just played through it (which can honestly be done in one long sitting) and the story is pretty great. I enjoyed it a lot, and although it definitely seems like Apocalypse Now in Dubai, the story is has a little more depth. It's the sort of story that kept me thinking until I had fallen asleep.

I hear the game is legitimately great SP wise as far as story goes, one of the only good SP stories done in a linear shooter apparently. I wouldn't mind picking it up on sale just to check it out for that

Definitely grab it on sale if you can, story is pretty good. Still haven't been able to motivate myself to complete it. Game kinda burns you out after a while.
