Here's a game, spec out the most powerful gaming PC for under $1000. Excluding keyboard, monitor, mouse. Only a case and what goes inside.

My last build cost under $1k but I reused my case and PSU. Putting them back in as-built, it's ~$1150. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/kFL3
There is no optical drive because I don't use them any more. The RAM is 8x2 instead of 4x4 because the board only supports dual-channel. I also reused my secondary HDDs, but those aren't part of the build. However, putting my games onto a 240GB Vertex 4 is one of the best decisions I've ever made.
