Micro ATX build

Looking for some opinions on this build. It's gonna be left at the in-laws so the idea is small and affordable performance.

CPU: Intel G3258
Cheap and easy to OC. Performs better some stock i3's when moderately pushed.

Mobo: ASRock Z97 Pro4 MicroATX
Z97 for OC'ing. One of the cheaper Z97 boards and been really happy with my current ASRock board.

GPU: EVGA 750ti
Good power/price/form. ATI drivers pissed me off too much with my last GPU.

HD: Samsung 850 SSD 250gb
Would like a SSD, not necessary though. Don't think I need that much capacity and it's easy to add a TB later if needed.

PSU: Corsair 500w
Semi modular. Good price.

Case: CoolerMaster n200
Dont know/care really. Willing to consider all affordable options that don't look like they should have been aborted.

Not much to say about the memory or cooler.

Why not a raspberry pi 2, I believe that can run Windows 7?

Because a Ras Pi can't game, plus it's still an ARM processor. There's very little games that are compiled for it. I'm assuming you want some low-end gaming on this rig, right?

There is only an ARM release of windows 10, and it's garbage.


Anyways, for an extra $40 you can upgrade to a GTX 950 which is worth the extra dollars for the energy saving alone.
You could save a little by dropping the cooler (unless you are really going to OC out the door) and possibly finding a case/psu combo.

I personally haven't had good experiences with ASRock, however that was some time ago and they have gathered a following now.
CPU wise, are there any other options with a quad core instead of only dual? If there is any gaming to be done, perhaps a stronger CPU? I'm out of the game, but that G3258 is from 2Q14. Is there a more recent option?

Yes, main purpose for this build is a low end gaming rig. I don't need it to be pretty but want good 1080 performance. (I'm fine with everything on Low and No AA if it runs at 1080)

As for the CPU, anything with 4 cores costs too much and defeats the purpose of the build. I'd be going from a $50 chip to a $200 one most likely. (I haven't considered AMD chips though). It is an old chip but it still remains incredibly popular. I know it depends on the game too, but for the most part the bottleneck is the GPU right?
I'll take a look at the GTX950 and look for Case/PSU combos and let you know what I find. I can afford 40 bucks if it delivers a bit more.

Another approach is to spec the mobo for the option for a CPU upgrade in the future. The motherboard you selected appears to support the upper end of 1150 4th gen i7 CPUs, so that works.
Morso, it also has an M.2 socket, so you can use a Samsung M.2 SSD card. Should be roughly the same price as the SATA version, only faster.
