I played through and loved Thousand Year Door--I even grew to like the paper mechanic (didn't go for it at first)--but if I had my choice between the two I'd go for Seven Stars.  I think I liked SS's cast, both friends and foes, moreso than Thousand's, and also the pacing.  The battle system in Thousand, however, edges out SS in the fun department; I loved dropping Earth Tremor on fools. |

I'm not saying SMRPG is bad either, but what the hell would it even be now? It used weird mid nineties pre-rendered sprites, which you can't really do nowadays (except apparently in the case of the visual abortion that is the Fire Emblem remake for DS), so what kind of aesthetic does it go for now? Is it still isometric but with sprites? Does it stay in somewhat the same universe as the first one? It just doesn't make any sense for Square to do a sequel to it, when there have been plenty of good Mario based RPGs since. And besides, I have no idea what gives you the impression Square would be capable of doing a competent sequel these days anyways. Most of the games they release now are remakes and/or trash =<.

Also Thousand Year Door is one of my favorite games of all time, no hyperbole. Amazing, amazing game! |
