Anyone ever see the movie Dark Star? It's an early co-production by John Carpenter (Too many good movies to mention) and Dan O'Bannon (Alien, Total Recall), and an expansion of their student short-film of the same name. It's pretty rough for the most part, but is pretty enjoyable at it's core. It really reminded me of an early version of Moon. If you're in the mood for a low-budget, Strangelovian space story, I'd really recommend giving it a watch. I was pleasantly surprised by the end.

Just finished Magnolia. Was really liking the first half. Kind of fell apart after that point. Cleaned itself up a bit by the end, however. Movie really could have used some harsh editing. I think it was maybe too overly-ambitious.

The Green Hornet is a weird mix of retarded and badass. The action scenes were kinda fun, bad guys died rather hardcore for a PG-13 flick, but it's just so...stupid. Was the original Green Hornet basically a bumbling rich guy? He's like if Batman never had his parents die (In a seriously traumatic way), and grew up as basically a douche.
After like 20 minutes, I just wanted to fast forward through anything that didn't have them fighting in it cause I was completely bored what was going on. Probably not the worst comic book movie, but man is it down there for me. |

I did like James Franco's character in it, and the guy who played the villain I liked as well. Seth Rogen and the person who played Kato got their jobs done. |

I enjoyed it though, all the action scenes and chases were fantastic. |

I liked Kato, Franco, and Chudnovsky, but that was about it. I don't usually mind Rogen, but did not like him in this. For being just a comedy, I rarely laughed at anything in it. I actually kinda laughed at the gas gun part, a scene I thought looked dumb in the trailers, but was abit funnier in the movie, but overall, I just put it on the slighter faster run speed I can do with the PS3 to speed watch through to the next action scene.

Das Boot: Original Uncut Version. Night 1, Session 1. I am about to embark on a journey. Preliminary reports indicate this journey to last 5 hours. 293 minutes, to be more precise. This estimation, however, is based on a flawless, intact run. Foolish delusions made by delusional fools. I know myself, acknowledge my limitations and will not deny the realities. This is but step one. This is a journey I've been expecting to do for some time now, but have avoided consistently. On 2 prior occasions I've faced the beast, only to turn my gaze before our inevitable engagement. I will not turn away again. This is my duty. The disc is in. There is no going back. |

Das Boot: Original Uncut Version. Night 2, Session 2.
The first night of the journey was mostly spent watching the crew celebrate on-shore. At first, I reasoned it was their naiveté that let them be so blissfully ignorant. How could men rejoice in such a way knowing well that they were about to partake in such an epic, 273 minute voyage? Did they not realize they had only burned a mere 20 minutes of this herculean 5 hour event? As the night went on however, I came to the conclusion that perhaps I was the naive one. These men do realize what they are up against. Perhaps better than I do. To them, every minute they can conquer of this saga is an achievement worth celebrating. In my eyes, Night 1 was a disappointment. I'm afraid only 26 minutes had elapsed, and I've only barely seen a glimpse of the blue ocean. Maybe it is best to have a slow start, in retrospect. Pacing is something to be considered. I have to remind myself that this is a marathon, not a sprint. For my own sanity, I have to keep things manageable. I have one shot at this, and I am best to tread lightly. It is official. The U-boat has launched, and is headed for the open sea. I am alone with the boat now, on course. |

On a much, much lighter note, I watched The Lost Boys last night for the first time.
Classic. Absolutely classic. Quote:One thing about living in Santa Carla I never could stomach, all the damn vampires. Steamboat Bill Jr. was awesome. Crazy something with so many set pieces was filmed before the sound era.
Also, Buster Keaton is the first freerunner ever. And he's awesome. |
