I'm sorry, I can't help but laugh. You got guys shooting each other. The cops are burning vehicles down, and HMMWVs getting run over by CAT bulldozers. It sounds like the LA riots are going on by you.

Some parts of it may seem to be part "made my day", but I seriously need to type it out.

Yesterday, my dad was screaming at me about not turning in money for a car payment. (Not really my car, but it is just to pay off a monthly car payment.) He was pretty upset about it and then he accused me of not caring about money. I basically told him that I did pay the minimum amount and the last one was actually lost in the mail. I also putted him in his place, telling him that he has no right to yell at me like a dog. He then became calm, probably now regretting ever yelling at me. He could not even apologize to my face, but I know he is indeed sorry. I basically spent the night banging on the walls, just to calm myself down before going to sleep. I know that it wasn't healthy, but I cannot go to the kitchen where my dad was without making a whole confrontation until tomorrow.

And to top it all off, my mom even scolded him this morning.

I still have this pent up anger, but it diffuse quite a bit actually.

And now time to play some APB so that I can even diffuse this anger even more.

I think this needs to be in the "this made my day thread." One day, Crow, you will see how lucky you are to have stories such as these. It puts every prick who complains about a broken copy machine or a typo into harsh perspective.

I don't think so rummy, because I find there is no such thing as a universal stress-gauge. A fire-fighter goes in everyday and everynight, basically flirting with death, but if the smallest thing he relies on goes to shit, he'll snap under pressure like any normal human. The same can be said by the cop, the loan-shark, Dirk from accounting, the stay-at-home parent, the president, anyone.  It's just what it is we put our weight on. I've seen my friends stand strong under pressure, but it's those little things we expect that, when removed, just break us.

I think that's pretty general... You make it sound like a rule. Stressful job = losing their shit at the little things.

Not necessarily true. It's all about the individual, as many find ways to cope and avoid your theory completely.

I dunno I often find myself building a sort of mental computer program to deal with all the stressful stuff. When something falls out of that it can really throw me off like PyroZombie was saying. I think that what he is saying has a lot to do with how some people deal with stress. They build themselves a mental set of parameters to operate in and setup mental blocks for bad stuff and highlight good stuff and hold it to great importance. A good example would be a morning cup of coffee. When I had stressful periods of work I'd form a morning habit of something positive to start my day a bit happy: the morning coffee and bagel or some pastry. Now if for some reason I couldn't get that I'd could really ruin my day. When things weren't as stressful I could honestly care less if something interrupted my routine.

I'm not sure if it is the same for everyone but I can feel what Pyro is saying. You can work up a very precise manner of dealing with stress that works very well, but if something unexpected throws it off it could make everything else crash down on you at once.

I sense another potential argument between you and I, so I'm just going the other way with my opinions.

lrn2adapt. Having a precise method of dealing with stress - that breaks when something unexpected happens - isn't a very good way of doing it IMO. Because unexpected things cause stress, zomgz.

I know you are right, it was just a simple way of compartmentalizing negative experiences and highlighting positive experiences for me. When something happened outside that system it was hard on me. I think I've adapted since.

Also I'm reading Pyro's comment outside of being referenced to Rummy's since it really doesn't make sense in context. Out of context I think it rings very true for some people. Which is why I agree that there isn't a universal stress gauge, different things hit people differently for different reasons.

Also @luin, I think we are both right because people deal with things differently. What he said just resonated with how I used to deal with things.
