I've basically always written the date in this format:
Month. Day, Year Ex. Jan. 2, 2011 |

Year, month, day is the most logical format.

the most logical format is %Y-%m-%d, %H:%M:%S

The 'wasted time' is more than made up for by the increase in clarity and removal of ambiguity. Also, shit sorts properly by date when sorted alphabetically this way. failing to see how YMD is better than DMY or MDY in terms of "clarity" or "removal of ambiguity", the info is still there, and DMY has the information, in this case day, that changes much more often than year at the start rather than at the end.

Try sorting things using computers and programming, then you will understand  Sig by Joel |
