Ports are all forwarded properly.
A weird thing that I noticed that I've never seen before is that when a game starts or a new map loads, my ping starts at 40. Then it steadily climbs as people join and the game starts until it hits 100-110. It's getting really frustrating, because it's throwing my sniping game off completely. I ran tracert, this is what I got. I don't know what it means, so I can't interpret it. I'm assuming the timeout on #7 is bad. tracert 8.12.20.112 Tracing route to 8.12.20.112 over a maximum of 30 hops  1  3 ms  1 ms  1 ms Gunzler [192.168.16.1]  2  32 ms  8 ms  18 ms cpe-76-166-192-1.socal.res.rr.com [76.166.192.1]  3  10 ms  12 ms  30 ms 76.167.15.117  4  10 ms  11 ms  21 ms cpe-76-167-6-93.socal.res.rr.com [76.167.6.93]  5  36 ms  50 ms  23 ms tge9-3.lamdca1-swt1.socal.rr.com [76.167.2.52]  6  *   27 ms  36 ms tge4-0-0.lsanca1-rtr1.socal.rr.com [76.167.2.56]  7  *    *    *  Request timed out.  8  24 ms  23 ms  44 ms te-1-3.car1.Tustin1.Level3.net [4.79.140.37]  9  22 ms  20 ms  37 ms ae-2-3.bar1.Tustin1.Level3.net [4.69.132.218] 10  56 ms  33 ms  38 ms ae-0-11.bar2.Tustin1.Level3.net [4.69.136.198] 11  83 ms  87 ms  72 ms ae-10-10.ebr1.Dallas1.Level3.net [4.69.136.206] 12  62 ms  53 ms  86 ms ae-81-81.csw3.Dallas1.Level3.net [4.69.136.130] 13  97 ms  68 ms  53 ms ae-82-82.ebr2.Dallas1.Level3.net [4.69.136.145] 14 119 ms  69 ms 108 ms ae-2.ebr1.Denver1.Level3.net [4.69.132.105] 15  82 ms  73 ms  87 ms ae-1-100.ebr2.Denver1.Level3.net [4.69.132.38] 16  91 ms 107 ms  92 ms ae-3.ebr1.Chicago2.Level3.net [4.69.132.62] 17 116 ms 125 ms  93 ms ae-6.ebr1.Chicago1.Level3.net [4.69.140.189] 18 127 ms  95 ms 112 ms ge-9-0.ipcolo1.Chicago1.Level3.net [4.68.101.10] 19  93 ms  93 ms 106 ms 8.12.20.112 Trace complete. |

Obviously I'm turning all my downloads/programs off when I'm playing Steam, and the router is the same as it was when I was using my laptop.
I really can't figure this out -- it's driving me crazy. |

Pinging the router returns <1ms 100% of the time.
I guess it's just this internet then. Oh well, hopefully they'll fix it soon. |
