Disclaimer: I'm not an apple user myself but I have quite some experience with them and most other operating systems/hardware manufacturers on the market.
To all you Apple haters... Apples aren't bad machines... Since they switched to the i386 architecture (Which is both a blessing and a curse as PPC is a nicer architecure than i386) they've been using open standards just as much as other manufacturers... For normal work PC's they are perfect as Mac OS X is built a lot saner than Windows... Sure they are not perfect but nothing is but my next laptop (I don't game on my laptop) will most likely be a macbook pro. It has more commercial support than Linux but still has a FreeBSD-based UNIX layer under it... For me doing my work without having a UNIX layer in my local workstation is a lot less productive than with. I see Mac OS X as a nice middle road between Linux (my preferred workstation OS for actual work) and Windows. (The OS you're forced on by certain commercial software vendors) Also, because of how they set up their hardware, the OS itself has virtually no driver issues because the configuration is well known... Windows otoh... well let's just say that if games would be cross developed for both Mac and Win, I would buy a Mac within an instant... Same would go for if they would be cross developed for Linux and Windows... I would never run Windows again. So I agree with the sentiment that ragging on a platform just because game developers fell in the directX trap is short sighted... Signature temporarily out of order until I get off my lazy ass to fix it. |

[/quote] That marketing campaign is actually super effective and Microsoft is trying to put together a marketing campaign to counter it as we speak. |
