Also because of child labor laws I could only work for computer parts under the table, didn't bother me any ;D |

For harddrives, all that stuff should be clearly labeled on the harddrive and cable. Again though, for those fancy new SATA drives this might not even be relevant. Just know that you very likely won't have to worry about it for your motherboard, and if it's wrong on the hard drive worst case is it won't boot correctly. SATA drives CAN have jumpers, but they're limited to "1.5Gb/s mode or not".
Needless to say, my 160GB Seagate drives had them for such and I removed them right off the bat. |

Whew, I think I'm finally almost all set. The last thing I have to get is speakers, and since I'm hitting my budget I'll probably just get some cheap ones off newegg or something. |

Lul. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but is a soundcard really gonna make a difference with cheap speakers? Course, your definition of cheap may vary. A good pair of headphones would be a much more cost-effective purchase though, if you're looking for quality on the cheap I think. I agree, I started gaming with headphones to block out the lifetime movies and I have to say I started to prefer it. The one thing is that you need to get ones that are comfortable so you can wear them for a while without making your ears sore.

I have these speakers, or possibly an earlier model from the same line. They're really damn good, and a decent price if you don't mind only a 2.0 speaker setup. Headphones are probably best anyway so I don't bother everyone in my house with a bunch of explosions and shit. HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATIONS! (Hopefully something from Newegg so I can get everything shipped in one giant box.) |

Sennheiser if you're after quality. Just spend however much you're willing, it's really a get what you pay for scenario. |
