(regurgitated from business school) Start ignoring what they have you regurgitating. Suits, outside of the more standard colours/patterns(I'm looking at you Don Cherry) have no significant meanings. Wearing a suit is simply a reflection of the situation that you're in. Dressing up for interviews or dressing down for casual day to day, a suit, is still just a piece of clothing. You can present yourself dozens of ways in a suit, the most important idea behind it is that a suit emboldens you; you're invincible(from a fashion standpoint) while wearing it. No one's going to shittalk a guy in a smooth setup. For the record, grey suits are better suited for the expanded wardrobe. All basic needs are covered with a blue or black suit. Surprisingly still on topic: I worked for several years as a 'wardrobe consultant' selling suits and menswear, on commission. The biggest thing about commission sales is that you have to love what your selling, otherwise you'll never make it. I saw dozens of people cycle through when they found out that didn't give a single fuck about fabrics and weave patterns, suit cuts and colour matching. I did, and made a more than modest living on for a time. Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence. -Albert Einstein

yeah he didn't expand on whether it was commission based or not, but i don't think the position is a fit for me. i'm not really a salesman. I can hardly go up to girls in bars and talk to them much less sell insurance.
that's alright though because i got an email and a phone call today for two more technical positions that i might be better suited for. and i'm still waiting for a call back from a third. Business clothing, like all social conventions, is highly contextualized. For example, in Milddle-eastern cultures, the norm is to lead with dark or black suits.
For a midwestern USA corp in a conservative field like insurance, you want to dress for what they want, which, if it involves selling overpriced-un-needed insurace to dying seniors, a dark suit and conservative shirt/tie would convey gravitas. In silicon valley? you better make sure your jeans have sufficient holes and rips in them. And, yes, to do commissions-based work you have to love what you sell. You can't half-ass it. |

So for the first time in my life I saw a chick who actually looked good with her hair almost completely buzzed off.
I have to give credit to any girl crazy/brave/confident enough to do something like that to her hair. |

Transpo can involve quite a bit of field work, but its almost impossible to get a job doing it at the moment. Geotech too, probably because both are primarily employed by government organizations. No matter what you decide, make sure you study for and take the PE exam (or whatever your state's certification exam is called) as soon as humanly possible. This coming from someone who dated a Structural for a long time, and lived with a Transpo As far as your initial post, all engineers I've talked (including myself) to have had that identity crisis moment, got through it, and then decided to continue engineering. Its like a rite of passage. "If you want to be a Double E, bend over and grab your knees...." "Atom is Sexy!" <-- Donate your own pic to the cause! Victory needs no explanation. That goes in the official lulz thread, matter
also lol And now since I have to suffer until this is done, you all should, too. http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1369...minecraft/ 'Meditation is supposedly the only way to Enlightenment because the only way to find this truth is through inner reflection - therefore, what you are finding to be the truth in your personal journey should ultimately be exactly what I find to be the truth, though all of our journeys are unique.'
