Haha, fuck that. I told my wife and mother in law that they could handle the details, the only thing I wanted was for it to be in my home town. So much less stress for me that way. Also, spring for the open bar all night. Trust me, you'll have an epic reception.

Nothing like losing a cat or a dog I'm sure.
It feels bad knowing that you won't have that warm ball of fur in the corner of the room to play with anymore, but such is the life of a small rodent who can only live up to 3 years. I've owned probably 10 mice and hamsters total, pretty used to the short lifespan now.

I'm guessing working in any sort of research desensitizes you to rodent death as well. My sister had to gas mice after each trial when she performed a study.

...and then put the corpses into plastic bags. And put said bags into a giant freezer.
Gassing is actually the most humane way to kill mice at the moment. They fall asleep from the initial CO2 and then it's a painless death from there.

I can't even imagine losing Scrambles and he's only been with me for half a year... But yeah, Crystal used to own rats and they have short life spans too.

I think that most of the people new to the site will head right into the tf2 or minecraft board so locking the general shouldn't hurt much. that's what I did at least.
