Yesterday I walked into a Lush with my ladyfriend, and asked if they had any Leather-scented soaps. The woman looked offended, declaring that they were a vegan establishment, but that they had "a wide selection of men's scents. They're like Axe, without the misogyny!".

Am I the only one that's taken Axe's advertising campaign to be irony from day one? I mean, they're being explicit with it as opposed to Old Spice who has been bandying about metaphor for years only to be applauded for their style. But other than being slightly less classy, what's the BFD?

Also most of the 'leather scent' is saddle soap and other conditioners, so homegirl needs to stop getting offended at how many cows died for a bar of soap. Does she know lanolin comes from sheep?

I love how research shows that both men and women think about sex multiple times a day but when advertisers try to play to that they are demonized.

I mean, sure, Axe is over-the-top. And could be seen as ironic, or offensive, depending on where you're coming from. But, if you've ever had a woman stuff her nose into your sweaty armpit and purr "I just love your smell! Squee!" then it's not hard to see why they take that approach.

All the talk about whether they are misogynistic (easy to argue) or offensive (easy too) is meta-fucking-bullshit. We all want a lover who loves the way we smell: man, woman, gay, straight, TG, furry, whatever. Anyone who can't acknowledge that base fact has some self-image or body issues or sexual hangups that is preventing them from having a maximal optimal sexytimes.

in highschool, I once got this reaction from my girlfriend's younger, hotter sister after walking 2 miles to their house in 80 degree heat with a backpack, sweating through two shirts in the process.  That was one of my first clues that I was dating the wrong sister. 

Guys, if you like her, find a reason to get her into the deodorant aisle early on and ask opinions.
