Quote: Can I use my current iPhone service plan with the iPad?

No. The cellular plan for iPhone is separate from the iPad plan.

Was looking at the ipad's with 3G coming up and the above quote is what the website says. So if I'm understanding, in order to have 3G access with an iphone and with an ipad, you have to burn $60/month? Kind of unfortunate Sad. So I guess I'll be on the fence a little longer before I decide whether to pick this up or not.

The 250mb/month plan is worthless. I burned through 65mb the first evening, probably be out of 250 by the end of the weekend.

my brother picked up one on a whim yesterday after he found out there is a CBR reader for it, so you don't have to shell out big money to read comics on the shiny screen.

The thing almost pays for itself after two years of free comic reading, or a weekend addicted to the entire spider-man library, whichever comes first.

having rumsfald follow your post is sort of like opening for led zepplin.

You think you'll gain some exposure, but really they just forget all about you once the master enters the court.

sorry, ianki. I liked the tip on the comic book readers, I'll probably give one a spin.

@surf, early 3G pre-orders were guaranteed to receive theirs on launch day, April 30. Mid-way through April they sold out of the first run and pushed subsequent website orders back to May 7.

It only pays for itself if you weren't already torrenting and reading them on a PC? ???

How are you liking it so far rummy? I'm mostly considering one because I absolutely hate my laptop. Battery no longer works, and the thing overheats constantly. It's also a lot of crap to carry around in a bag, just to be able to browse the web occasionally between class/work/beer/movies/etc. For myself, it'll be for browsing the web and occasional work on documents (simple spreadsheets or notes to self, nothing too complicated).

With respect to those functions, how satisfied are you with the iPad so far? If you don't think you've had enough time with it, please take your time before giving your spiel, I'd rather have an accurate assessment of functionality

I'll need at least a week for that. Mibbit works, and since Safari is one of the apps that is allowed to multitask, that works ok, but once the pad goes into sleep mode it disconnects.

Web browsing is hella sweet. Being able to have instant-boot access to the www from anywhere is worth the price of admission for me.

Mail seems pretty decent. I've got ~9 accounts strewn between exchange, yahoo, gmail, etc, and it seems to juggle them fine. Not quite as elegant as the blackberry, but you get more access to multiple folders located serverside.

Calendar integration with exchange seems better than average. Supposedly, you can also add secondary calendars and integrate with google calendar, I'll probably do some of that tomorrow to send my calendar to my other devices via google's cloud.

Contacts seem passable, nothing notable good or bad.

Security is a joke. passcode from sleep is 4 numbered digits. Also, you can't lock-down e-mail apps, so anyone who wants to toy with your pad has full access to all your e-mail/calendar/contacts.

notes seem weak. I haven't had the chance to try more productivity software yet, but I will.

also, THE DOCK IS USELESS. Don't buy one. The dock charges the device in portrait mode, which puts more pressure on the dock connector...and...is the least preferred way to use the ipad. Especially when you think of all the pressure you put on by touching the device. I've already have old ipods fail at the dock connector, and the physics involved with this beast makes that more likely. This device is all about landscape for mail and www. Better to cut the pack-in cardboard to make landscape easles, and plug-in the cable in the side.

Other accessories: screen protector seems essential (I don't have one yet). Apple's case is so-so, a bit rubbery but it folds out to a decent lap landscape stand. Apple bluetooth keyboard is sweet and a must for me.

Yea I think I will get one. Especially after that CBR reader tip. How is space usage for you? I was thinking the 16 gig would be fine since it seems like a device begging to be used with cloud integration. I doubt I'd use it for music and it probably wouldn't be that hard to figure out how to stream my music collection from my PC anyways.

I got a 64 so I wouldn't have to fret with space usage.

Device needs more memory as "ram" though so it can keep more on tap at once. I don't like how it has to refresh webpages secondary and tertiary web pages.

Syncing with google calendars is a bit gimped at the moment. Apparently, the apple software only allows syncing through one exchange server natively. Supposedly, google sync will allow multiple such syncs, but it's not fully functional yet. Not a huge issue for me, my work calendar is #1, but I wanted my work ->sync to ipad calendar ->sync to google sync -> sync to google cloud-> sync to blackberry. And vicea versa. I expect that should be working in within the next month or so.

Also, 209mb so far. I'm pretty sure the 15buck/month plan is to scam people cause everyone is going to upgrade.

I still take it everywhere when I'm reading but I haven't had much time for heavy reading lately. Also Foucault's Pendulum was killing me. I'd love one that does comic books though.

Also Rummy: do you know if it does HDMI out with some sort of adapter contraption?
