If you're looking for a good value buy, you can get a 12 year old bottle (750ml) of W. L. Weller for under $30. I've heard some good things about it, but I haven't tried it myself yet. It's a wheated bourbon, so a bit less "harsh" than a rye whiskey.

i had a pretty decent scotch whiskey on a plane ride last summer. it was canadian and that's all i know about it
