So once SMP actually works, are we ditching our creative server?

whats the overhead on the creative server, and what does it look like it's gonna be for survival? is keeping both not feasible? I'm just curious, I have no idea how minecraft servers run.

It's doubtful I'll keep both up, but it's a possibility.
Right now here's the scenarios: Stock MPC server sucks up RAM and CPU like a bitch. 3rd party MPC server is awesome on RAM and CPU, but still uses about 120MB RAM, and the CPU usage can spike very badly if a few people connect @ once, or do a bunch of shit @ once. Physics off helps w/ this, but still the game is unoptimized all over. Not to mention the server I get the best RAM/CPU usage is actually a .exe on an Ubuntu box. =( Right now the server Notch released is a .jar file, so I expect it to be every bit as shitty in terms of optimization as the official MPC server. If Notch suprises me, I might keep the MPC server up, but right now I'd put money on no. Keep in mind I didn't purchase this box for Minecraft either. I put Minecraft up because it had free resoirces to burn, but It's primary purpose is Mumble and quick map server for red and blu. Because of that it's not going to be running with like 150MB ram free because Minecraft is chewing up half the system, I'm keeping a fair portion of the system free for when 20 people slam the server for the same 25MB file at the same time and there's already 15 people using ~80KB/s each of bandwidth in Mumble |

Just started playing, got it to run at work. 8)
Got a little hut with a lookout area. Edit: Nearing the end of the workday... Fort Oxide is coming along nicely, started mining in the cave on the right, but I haven't found much of anything besides coal... I need to find iron ore and water.

Here's my island fortress right now. It's pretty bare at the moment and I have no clue why I need three stories, but it was fun to build and it has some quality in it with cooked stone for the walls and cobblestone for the floors. I'm probably gonna expand it abit eventually, putting up some cool castle walls and what not, but for now, there's just the one way to get across

Can anyone tell me what I need to create a torch? Haha.
I went to the wiki, and saw this, but what is the mineral on top of the stick? I'm having a hard time finding it in game. |

Yeah I really hope they get some labels on this stuff. Sure the wiki is helpful, but it can be annoying trying to guess what some of this stuff is lol

Here's FortTwenty, my current base of operations. I carved out layers of it to make the 2nd and 3rd levels, the top is the grass up top.
The main (middle) level where my workbench and primary storage is, along with my smelting wall. The bottom floor is where the Ganja Railway is currently under construction from. The plan is to make railways to the canyon walls on either side of me you can see in the pic, and expand from there once those are hollowed out. |
