or you know, the two big offensive damage dealers negated by someone holding mouse2

airblast headshots when crosshair is a mile away from the head is the dumbest thing in tf2

Fixed.

not sure what you fixed, i'd welcome decent shot registration

I get a kick out of it when people say airblast is stupid. Just mad that pyros can fight with "the two big offensive damage dealers" pound for pound now at longer ranges than the flamethrower allows, instead of just being able to DPS your way thru their HP for the win. Best part is you get really extra super mad because it's your own projectile doing the killing, so you say it's stupid.

oh, i forgot pyro was supposed to be capable at everything but long range against every class except normal snipers and heavies

also, i almost never get killed by reflects. the one time i remember getting killed by a reflect recently wasn't with my own projectile, so i'm pretty sure i'm not mad

Holy fucking rage. I'm saying Degreaser Pyro's shouldn't be able to airblast or use flames as much because they shouldn't need them due to their incredibly fast axetinguisher combo. This also gives people incentive to use the flamethrower that was pretty much made obsolete with the Degreaser. Calm down.

Pyro is running around doing his thing, all of a sudden; OH SHIT, SOLLY. ROCKET <reflect> ROCKET. <reflect> ROCKET. <miss> ROCKET. <fssht> Now he's out of ammo, and "because he doesn't need it due to the incredibly fast axetinguisher combo" he's left without that ability completely.
So, the intelligent Pyro says, "Gee golly, there are a lot of soldiers. It's time to switch to the normal flamethrower which is now a viable weapon with its 200 ammo because this Degreaser, which is still a perfectly capable weapon in dozens of other situations, isn't making the cut here. Good thing I have options to change my strategy." Currently, the Degreaser is the end all, bone-fide, definitive flamethrower. I'm trying to make the other ones have their place too. You can't just throw a single situation where my idea of a revised Degreaser doesn't work so well and say "YOU SEE IT AM NOT WORK", because all the weapons are supposed to have their faults. This is how the game was originally designed. It's up to the player to pick their weapon and know when it is best and when it is risky.
the problem with pyro is his default weapons are all shit. he's been buffed through items to the point where shit like the powerjack, which would be op on ANY OTHER CLASS, is worthless because of how good axtinguisher is. he's become balanced around an unlock, which is stupid. not everyone has it, and it makes every other melee obsolete. they should just add minicrits on burning enemies to the default axe, maybe it would open up more options

My friend had a pretty interesting idea for buffing backburner...

m2 would puff out some oxygen on the enemy, and if hes on fire, the afterburn gets minicritted. It would have a recharge bar, so that it wouldn't waste ammo/get spammed.

It would help finish off runners from an ambush, and help during the ambush i guess...

Give the degreaser the old airblast recycle duration and make it use 25 ammo and I'd be happy with it.

Yuh. Maybe an even longer airblast cooldown, or more ammo per m2.

Kirby, you're raging too hard for no reason. Nobody here complained about the aiblast. They complained about the degreaser not being a fair weapon, or, as Spore said, it's making the regular flamethrower totally useless. It was a good weapon before the degreaser, remember? It could airblast and shit. Why does noone use it now?.

Actually Ive switched back to the regular flamethrower, the reduced damage and afterburn are more of a deal than you think, it dropped the enemy medic during the last UGC match a few times, something that would not have happened with the degreaser.

I thought the degreaser only did reduced afterburn, not reduced damage. Though maybe a large decrease in flame damage would be a good nerf. 30%-50% less damage would still allow for degreaser/flare follow-up but would make it a bad weapon for dealing with larger groups of enemies. Leaving the regular flamethrower a more All-around weapon, and the backburner as a purely DPS/ambush weapon.

The flamethrower and degreaser do the same raw damage from flames, but what people forget is afterburn starts from the moment you take fire damage. so the entire time you are still flaming them, you are doing more damage, the timer just keeps getting reset because fire is continually applied Smile

Degreaser < Flamethrower < Backburner

The backburner actually does 25% higher DPS than the flamethrower

I knew about the backburner having higher DPS, but does the decreased afterburn on the degreaser make it do less DPS than the flamethrower, assuming a constant spray of M1 hitting the enemy?

Either way, I stand by my statatement, a decrease in damage (maybe not as dramatic as ~40%) would make the flamethrower a more viable option, but leaving the degreaser a better alternative in a niche role.

Bumping this thread due to severe frustration I've had with both Valve and Team Fortress 2 as of late.

First thing: Just stop with the promotional items. It was kind of cool when they did it for Sam & Max, something special for fans of the series, but now it's just gotten mundane. I'm mean, for god's sake, we don't need 55 extra items, most of which are fairly underpowered and just cluttering up space.

Second thing: NO MORE WEAPONS. FOR GOD'S SAKE, NO MORE WEAPONS.

Third thing: Optimize the friggin game. The fact that I'm getting an fps cap of 60 frames is unacceptable, given the card I have in my system (Radeon HD 5870). Plus, as of late, there have been lots of people complaining about hit detection (given the way valve is implementing the replays, I'm shouldn't be surprised).

Fourth thing: Use the TF2 beta more often for weapon testing items that are already out instead of making more stuff for the Modern Warefare 3 promo or whatever. We added airblast to the backburner, and for the most part, it seems to have worked pretty well. So why not give the shortstop or degreaser a spin next?

Fifth thing: Maybe a new game mode sometime soon? One reason why TF2 never got stale was because of occasional mega updates and lots of map types. Plus, we got 4 new game modes in only a little over a year. So why is there more of a focus on items instead of good maps and gameplay types?

Give us an option in the menu to better customize the game. Specifically, I would want options to disable hats, paints, effects, etc. Disable HUD items.

Options in the menu. I know you can probably mod the game to do this.

Isn't the degreaser afterburn literally just 1 less damage per tick?

There was a mod to disable hats a while ago, but I think it got broken with an update.

Actually it would be a nice client side thing to force all "normal" hat models at least for the point of saving memory
