I'm home for spring break, which is something that you might think would belong in the "improved my day" thread. The only problem is that all of my stuff (computer, sheet music, friends) are back at university. Seeing family is nice and all, but since the computer here isn't powerful enough for me to be able to join you guys for TF2 and the like, and since I don't keep in touch with people from high school, I'm looking at otherwise 8 days of studying-out-of-boredom.

I hope you're able to work something out after all! My FML is nothing big. I have a big 2500 word research paper due really soon. I've been struggling with it for awhile after putting it off way too long, as usual. I was thinking about it in the shower this morning and I realized that if I continued with it the way it was I would never finish and it would be shit. I started that mother fucker ALL OVER again today and the draft is due thursday. Worth 25% of my grade (and if I don't have an editable draft for that day I automatically lose 5%). This does have a plus side though. Starting over was a great idea; it's loads better than it was before and thanks to that, I've become more organized and it's easier to write. Still, I'm scared. SO much other work to do including two whole units in computer science that I've been too lazy to do. Why do I always fuck myself over like that?
Sick masochism.
Actually many of the things I've read on writing recommend starting over and rewriting a couple of times (obviously for the things you have the time for). Pretty much for the reasons Luin said. The first time you write something you are figuring out as you go and trying to push the words out, but by the time of the rewrite you will pretty much know everything that you need to write and remember all the good things that you already wrote. If you just go back endlessly fixing the original it will probably take longer and end up disjointed. |

Graped. Great idea though, D&D-flavoured TF2 over IRC. -- You have encountered a Pyro! --You roll 2d10 to hit with RawketLawnChair. --You roll 100! Skill Rawket! --Pyro rolls to save with Airblast, 2d10. --Pyro rolls 65, and reflects, but only scores a partial hit! --You take 110 damage. etc. Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. I owe a lot in taxes. My earned income from appraising just covers what I owe but I have no idea when it is coming in. Also this means I have a lot less to work with as far as paying off debts to get ready for school. And to cap off the shit sandwich I just got informed I have been contracted to start working even without having received our retainer for this big assignment that I can't even afford to work on except nights and weekends. All this time I thought that we were contracted at time of receiving the retainer. :'(

Oh god that sucks duck :'(
My only advise is to focus on the good that you did have in the past, take some time off to get your bearings and then move on. I won't claim to be an expert on these things, but I believe that time and sensible thinking eventually heal everything. Â Sig by Joel |

I can't pretend to know what you're going through Duck, though I've always feared the same thing happening to me. My girlfriend lives 1-2000 miles away, and even with 2 years behind us, the future of our relationship looks shaky. I'm sorry that you're in a time of such loss. We've got you in our thoughts. And I'll add you on Steam. |
