Whoever made the first halls made them much to small :3. Main hallways should be at least two tiles wide.
No pictures? :C

I made mine 3 tiles wide :3
Also, you trying to make a water pump of some kind yet, or do you not know how it works?

DF hasn't been the same since they made elephants peaceful.  Now we only got murderous carp.

Eschatos: can you start a DF game and narrate it to us with pictures? You can make a new thread and I will keep it cleaned out for you if you are interested.

I can't fucking figure out how to work out the water situation :V. I'll stick to my own forts that make sense to me. This one just doesn't make any sense to me. It's mid-winter...barely played any. But a goblin raid killed like, 6 doofs because our military couldn't be assed to move.

I prefer having workshops having their own little rooms separated, so I can stick a door on one just in case a strange mood dwarf starts rampaging. Also fuck the ocean. And a lack of storage for things so workshops get cluttered as heeeelllllll

I got started expanding storage rooms, as well as creating rooms & office suite for nobles.

I suppose.  I just bought Mount and Blade though, so I don't have much time to play.

I'm still interested in giving this a spin, if you trust Random Interloper Guy.

{edit: spun? err.}

I'll go, if that's acceptable.  What are the major goals?  Get the pump set up?  Is it ready for a well, or will it just be a water zone for now?

Get that thing running, then put in a well. I took away the ONE guard dogs chain so the well could have one...when it gets built.

Roger.  Uh, is the intended pump the one on the surface next to a pond?  I can work with that, but just wanted to make sure.  I'm pretty sure I can get some time in this evening, but I don't recall how long a year takes to complete.

Takes a couple hours to finish one year
Also, you can move the pump you want anywhere, just make sure the pumped water doesn't touch any natural floors or walls or other saltwater.
I'm pretty sure the pump I set up by the sea is still there, but you can make one by a pond if the sea is too hard.

Haven't played much more than taking stock while paused...  Looks like the right-side pump will be the one to use.  I'm a little iffy on making a well below the pump, as I don't want water to rush back up out of it to flood whatever room it's in.  Once I have fresh water available, I can take my time with setting up a proper cistern, I guess.

Er, so it's spring already?  That seemed fast.  Maybe the previous save was at a different season?

http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/1420239/Blindbeer.zip

I'm not very good at documenting/screenshotting-while-playing, so I'll just describe what I recall.

I walled/floored off the water channel on the east side of the fort, and have pump operators keeping it filled.  The only access point to the fresh water currently is a hole in the ground just outside the north wall, though.  I started construction of a cistern above the bottom-most water channel, so that a simple hole can be punched down, through which water will most likely flow upwards.  I recommend not having the operators madly pumping when this happens.  A well can be installed above that.  The injured marksdwarf is receiving water, too.

I noted the mayor (Eschatos, I think?) had no offices to speak of, so I assigned three rooms (office, dining and sleeping) from the already-in-progress chamber digging to him.  Doorways were knocked between the chambers, and engravings done to bring up the room quality to the desired levels.  He also seems to also value personal improvement, as he spends most of his time burning calories at the pump.  A dwarf nicknamed Creepy has become part of the engraving team.

Not much happened apart from that...  I was able to use the job manager to assign brewing and cooking tasks, as the mayor now has a proper office.  Assigning a new bookkeeper/taskmaster could be useful.  I have to say that I'm a bit bewildered by the fortress design, so I didn't feel like doing much digging/shop building.  Some gems were struck in the exploratory mining, along with a buncha damp stone.  Heh.

I think a toy axe was created by a moody dwarf?  Check the artifacts screen when you start.

[edit:  Just realized Luca ended turn in the middle of winter?  I'm fine with a short turn, though.  I can take time to do a better update next time around.]

I started playing like...early Winter, so keep going. I didn't even look at the season honestly, I just know that I didn't get through a season.

I can play the entire spring-to-spring year if nobody is ready to take the reins.  Anyone itching for a turn?
