Get yourself a nice bottle of dark rum (Goslings, if you can find it), and pour what seems like an appropriate amount over ice. Then top with ginger beer (or ginger ale, if you can't get ginger beer), sit back, and enjoy.

I bought some Goslings, and was not impressed with how it tasted in a Rum & Coke. I'll have to try a dark & stormy.

Also, decent rum (be it Bacardi Gold, DonQ Cristal, etc) won't run you more than $20-25 for a fifth. Add a case of coke, and one of those little lime-shaped limejuice things from the grocery store and you're plastered for a weekend (or tipsy for a night with friends) for less than your $40 limit.

Alcohol Connoisseurs of brbu, I require your advice.


I'm gonna be buying some booze soon, but I kinda want to try something new or that isn't captain morgan or patron silver.

I don't really care what type of alcohol it is, but I want it to taste good. Read: it doesn't taste like absolute ass, I don't mind if it has a nice bite though.

What are your suggestions? Give me your knowledge so I can drink it away.

Bulleit Bourbon (Awesome.  A bit stronger than the average, 90 proof)

Woodford Reserve (Pretty good.)

Knob Creek (Very strong, distinctive taste/smell.  Sorta smokey.  Not your average bourbon, in a good way.)

Jack Daniels (I have become notorious for showing up to parties with this.  I'm a grown ass man and I'll never drink [insert cheap college beer here] ever again.)

Jack Daniels Honey Whiskey (uhhhhh was fun the first time I got it.  Unfortunately it's so sweet that you don't really monitor your drinking properly :p.  70 proof)

Gentleman Jack (Smoother than regular, basically.)

Jim Bean Black (See above.)

Angel's Envy (Has a cool bottle?  Better than Jack/Jim, but more expensive.)

Maker's Mark (Kinda sweet, weak taste.  Won't drink it ever again because I had half a shot at a bar after eating pizza, threw up outside during a chicago winter.  It's not bad, I just have such intense negative emotions about it that I guess I can't properly review it :p)

Any vodka will do, the party I went to used some cheapass vodka and it still tasted very good. This is not a classy mixed drink though.

I picked up a fifth of DonQ Cristal and a fifth of Jack's Honey Whiskey for this winter break.


The Don Q wasn't as smooth as I expected from a rum, but it's still good in my book just because I'm a sucker for rums.
