European Server Rotation Suggestions

I've been toying with the idea of changing the map rotation of the european server as I've been getting sick of 2fort and yesterday we've actually had people leave because 2fort came up... So I'm starting a thread about it and see what everyone says:

Current rotation:

cp_dustbowl
ctf_2fort
pl_goldrush

Thinking about either only removing 2fort but my preferred rotation would be:

pl_goldrush
cp_warpath2
cp_dustbowl
cp_labor

I could also add 2fort to it but I think adding warpath2 and labor to it is a good idea as it would make the server not yet another stock map server.

So what do you people think? Is the european server ready for the adding of customs to the rotation? Any map in particular you want added?

Since it seems like you're keeping the rotation light, I agree 100% with your suggestion.

I don't want to go overboard with customs just yet, the 2 most played customs seems like an OK move... so I might add 2fort after all.

Labor, Mach4, and Warpath are probably your most popular customs

However, currently your download FTP is also Scotty's, I dont know if it would be better or not to get an FTP in europe for better speeds to people downloading maps they dont have

So Mach4 as CTF choice or 2fort? What do you people say?

And I'm mirroring Scotty's download location as we speak so that will get fixed soon.

The only thing I'm afraid of is that if we go too overboard with customs it would become hard to seed...

If you're worried about seeding, then I guess add 2fort so there is at least one ctf map and maybe add mach4 at a later date.

Yah and I'm inclined to agree with you, 2fort stays. What do you think about the 2 customs?

Add badlands.  I honestly have no idea why people hate it.

Because just like granary its a fucking steam roll every god damn time

Theres no time or good places to entrench and turn the momentum around, and its horrible. See labor for how a map should be fucking made in that style. Its short enough that a scout rush is ineffective, the cap time in the center is long enough a team full of scouts can't insta-cap it. Respawn bonuses as you go forward don't exist, again so the map doesn't turn into a steam roll. The last point doesn't instantly flip if a scout touches it. And last but not least the last two points are actually defensible.

The reason cp_well doesnt suffer from the same problems is that you can actually set up good sentry guns to cover the last point and that 4th point is very easy to defend, again with one or two sentry guns. Even if you have two set up on badlands or granary for the last point, you ain't got shit and are still going to get rolled.

At least badlands is somewhat tolerable, granary has always been a load of garbage

Sp long as warpath2, dustbowl, and goldrush are on there the ctf map doesn't matter to me. 2fort actually might work better. It's still a decent map and having it on one of our servers would be nice. Plus it's popular so it'd be good for seeding. Also i despise badlands. I know the rest of the community has mixed feelings on it though, either they hate it or they love it. If you want my opinion leave it out of the rotation.  Smile

Badlands is only a steamroll with an uncooperative, non-situationally-aware team. It's actually quite good for competitive play. :p

I'm kinda like a broken record whenever this topic comes up, I'm always going to advocate stock maps over customs. I guess it's hard to say, though. Everyone's got all the stock maps already installed but they're maybe over played. As Caff said, there's some popular customs but they're on a load of servers so it gives us no particular draw, whilst the lesser known customs would stand the server out from the crowd but possibly only to the more obscure players.

+1

Badlands used to be a steamroll when it first came out but the last few months I've had some excellent matches. I always feel the need to stick up for Granary as well - granted, there is a tendancy for one team to steamroll but if you get evenly balanced teams and the defenders actually bother to set up a defence it can make for some epic battles.

Competitive play vs pub play, its an open server and thus a P-U-B, maybe a competitive scrim or a pickup might be different, but again its the mark of a bad map, if it doesn't balance itself out in general pub play with teams, then its not a good map
