Over the next few days we'll be removing all TF2 items that were earned using external idling applications. We're going to adopt a zero tolerance policy for external applications used to manipulate the persistent item system. Due to us not having a policy in place prior to today, this time we're only removing the items earned through cheating the system. Going forward, if we find users using external applications, we'll remove all of their items. If you're interested, only about 4.5% of the players in TF2's community will be affected by this cleansing process.

Meanwhile, everyone who took the moral high road will soon be finding a new hat in their inventory. We've also significantly increased the chance of finding any of the existing hats.

We realize there is a high level of demand for items, and we're still working on systems to allow you to find them in new ways (via Trading, and crafting duplicates into desired items). However, we need to draw the line at running external applications.

If you're interested, only about 4.5% of the players in TF2's community will be affected by this cleansing process.

I think there is some other cheating non-idling method

You could always go back to _real_ idling, join achievement_idle and just wait it out, cause thats still technically legit

How exactly are they going to tell what items were gotten via idling or not?

That's probably it. They have no way of determining if past items are legit or not anyways, especially since the cheat value was just added into the game. :

It's pretty much for the 8000 people that decided that they would still idle today I think. Hopefully my stopping yesterday after I got my first hat is good, because today's update implemented the values into the Steam Cloud.

Still pissed off though. I only started using the idler because since then classless update, I've received nothing. On top of that, day one of the update, I was tricked into deleting my kritzcreig by being told I found "a new one." I deleted that sense my backpack was full. I go to equip it later... and it's gone.

On top of that again, the idler never worked for me. It actually crashed steam after 2 minutes. So if I don't get a hat because of my failed attempt at idling...
