Three new maps from the competition list at STA-TF2. Some of these maps Ive not seen myself on FPS Banana, but I'm sure theres links elsewhere. Since they are on league rotations, I'm sure they are for the most part fairly well balanced and polished.


cp_junction_v2 - Dustbowl style AD map

cp_desert fortress - sort of like starship, but with only 4 cap points, the two middle ones are open at all times, and you need all 4 to win.

ctf_fishy_b4 - smells fishy, but Im willing to take a gamble on it


In other news, ScottyG changed all the files on the download URL from bsps, to bz2s. This greatly improves the compression ratio on all maps, since source knows how to unzip these files. This makes a map like studio go from almost 60 megs to 20, a much better download. So you can feel free to rtv to lesser known customs or larger customs with less fear of people dropping due to large files. I think this makes the largest overall download 35 megs, which would be steel, 20 for the map and 15 for the video.

Just remember to seed the servers, especially #2 before things get rolling, and if you can't get in to #1, use #2 until a slot opens. Another heads up since people keep asking me, to connect manually to #1 to access that 25th slot, use the following console command.

connect ip; password pass

All one line, this allows you to manually connect to a server using a password.

Do bz2's get uncompressed locally by Source, or does it do it at runtime everytime so it potentially takes longer to load?  I got a map of FPSBanana that was .bz2, but just decompressed it to a normal .bsp

No when source gets the bz2, it uncompresses it to a local BSP, the decompression utility is built into source so its like this

Download bz2 -> Source Decompresses -> Load BSP like normal

If you downloaded one and checked your maps folder, you would only see the normal BSP and not the bz2
